Don't worry, the IG community calibrates in centuries. Protecting the writing surface from skin fat is essential, especially with pointed nibs. (I don't know the correct English word, but a picture says more)

Thank you for a quick reply, Liz.
I've gone to my friend, 'Amazon UK' (yes, I have a friend, but I'm guessing he's staying loyal due to how much I spend monthly) and I've found the gloves, so I have ordered a pair to see if I can get on with them.
Very much obliged for your words.

You're very welcome! Hope you like them - FWIW, it did take a little while to get used to it - when you first put it on, it feels weird, but once you go to work, you forget about it. This continues for a while, but then it doesn't even feel weird when you first put it on.

We say skin "oils" rather than "fat", and to my knowledge, "pointed nibs" is what we call them in English (at least, I've often heard the phrase "pointed nib calligraphy").

I have to say that Liz speaks better English than me. But with the iron gall ink, you could smell the skin oils. The divalent iron ions catalyze conversion products from the skin oil and then it smells like "iron". (iron itself is odorless)

But I'm entirely certain you speak German better than I do (since I don't! ). Fascinating facts about iron gall inks and skin oil! Thanks for teaching us something new.

    Hello,

Lindsay can sure sing. Beautiful voice, lovely song but I have to be honest - I want that Gretsch so, so bad (pretty please)...(with strawberries on top).
