Cool Octopus Fluids Sepia Schwarz (Black)

This ink belongs to the classic lineup of Octopus Fluids.
The brand from what I gather is specialized in making printer inks. They can be easily found in Europe and in US (Vanness) and Canada (Blesket)

While I gravitate mostly towards waterproof inks, I enjoy walking on the wild side with water loving inks
I have a soft spot for sepia/brown inks, and this one is no exception.

Let's start with the complex Chroma (look at the multitude of colours)
    Chroma - Octopus Sepia Schwarz.jpeg
    Writing Samples:
    My apologies for misspelling Schwarz
    RHodia - Sepia Schwarz.jpg
    Midori- Sepia Schwarz.jpeg
    TR 68 gr Sepia Schwarz.jpeg
It does like thin copy paper as you can see, but if you enjoy thick absorbent papers, it's well behaved

    Comparison:
    Comparison Sepia Schwarz.jpg
Water test ( I choose my method this time, and simply poured some water with an eye dropper and dapped it off. As you can see quite a bit of ink was removed)
    Water Sepia - Sepia Schwarz.jpeg
And finally an art work, it was inspired by the yearly inktober prompt Vampire.
Paper is Fabriano Sketchbook paper (Very absorbent paper)
    Other inks are:
J Herbin Lierre Sauvage and De Atramentis Document Red

    · Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef/ Stub, Kaweco (EF/F/M/B), Kanwrite Ultraflex
    · What I liked: I loved almost everything about this ink. It’s slightly drier, at least in the Kaweco.
    · What I did not like: No water resistance. If you're looking for a water-resistant ink there are many more options.
    · What some might not like: No water resistance, dryness,
    · Shading: Yes.
    · Ghosting: On cheap paper
    · Bleed through: On cheap paper
    · Flow Rate: Good
    · Lubrication: On the dry side.
    · Nib Dry-out: Nope
    · Start-up: None.
    · Saturation: No.
    · Shading Potential: Excellent
    · Sheen: None.
    · Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: If the pen is wet, primed and you insist writing on copy paper.
    · Nib Creep / “Crud”: a bit.
    · Staining (pen): None.
    · Clogging: No.
    · Cleaning: Easy.
    · Water resistance: Vaguely
    · Availability: 30 ml

Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier

Thanks, Yazeh, for another great review! Things I like: cool chroma, interesting ink color, kitties and mousies making art, and mysterious vampire love-triangles. You might be needing more red for the next scene...

ETA: Added this to my wishlist.

I really love the chroma on this ink, and I am a dark brown fan in general. And a fan of your art! Mousie is checking his reflection, while Kitteh is looking—-devious. Then there is the branch, the kitteh, and mousie with a rose. Fantastic!

Thanks again, Yazeh, for another great ink revew.

The cold truth is, most fountain pen inks are about 90% water anyway. From a monetary point of view, however, it is essential to distinguish between water and water with the inscription "MONTBLANC".

    Hello.

Awesome review as expected. Love the artwork. I see the branch breaking having been struck by lightning due to inclement weather. The mouse suffering a serious head injury caused by the branch falling on his/her head, and the bat flying off laughing and singing, 'fangs for the memory'.
    I'll grab my coat.
I really like this black ink. The first time I bought it, I loved how it flowed out the end of the nib. After I had finished the bottle, I bought another bottle. When that bottle was very nearly finished I bought a bottle of Diamine. The latter being very good, obviously, but I preferred the Octopus, so much so, I bought the refill bottle (.25ltr) and that'll need replacing very shortly.
I did have it in my 'Cross', and when I bought more pens the ink went into them and the result was the same. be it 'medium', 'fine' or 'extra fine', the ink flowed lovely.
I guess everybody has a 'go too ink', not nessiecelery their favourite ink - my go too ink is 'Octopus Black'. Love it.
Thank you for the review, Yazeh.

Fantastic review of an ink I have, and have clearly not spent enough time with! I'm going to dig it out and load it up very soon - I feel a wishy washy moment coming on!

    Thank you

Wow! And I thought that their Write and Draw were more than enough. I hope their colours are better than De Atramentis' document line. Personally waterproof is more than enough for me

    I love your vivid imagination.
Three bottles of the same ink. I can barely finish a vial of ink
I'm glad you have your favorite brown. I'll be reviewing a couple of more sepias, soon

They write these document inks have less binder than the Write and Draw. We've discussed this several times in the penexchange, it's just a concession to fountain pen suitability.

MOst welcome! Yep, it's like your "favorite" Pilot blue black, fantastic chroma but lacklustre ink. This one is quite agreeable I have to admit, though, and thankfully it's not waterproof
