Mystery Inks #54, 55, and 56

Finally had some time today to get my first thoughts with 54 and 55 on paper

I wanted to take the pictures in natural light but of course it was dark and rainy all day so I just tried to adjust the image as much as possible to make it as close to what my eyes are seeing

I played around some more with these Mystery Inks, on MD paper:



Very pleasant, thick, smooth paper. I've already shown one pen pal these inks. Waiting for more!

I've been desperately trying to use up the ink in the converter of my third pen for testing 56 and didn't have an empty vial to put the last half converter. I finally got it down where it was less than a third of the converter and decided as much as I hate wasting ink, I needed to do something so I could get the pen clean. So down the drain the little bit that was left in the converter went and finally getting all the diamine lightning blue out of the pen now to hopefully get started testing MI 56 tonight or in the morning, sorry I'm running so late everyone.

Testing MI 54 and 55 on cheap mead five star paper. MI 54 was an absolute chore to write with from feeling less lubricated and waiting for the feed to catch up but I really like how the color looks on this paper, to me it looks more saturated because of the paper soaking in so much. Both 54 and 55 seem easier to read on this paper.

With MI#56 once I got it flowing the flow was fine. However, it seems to be one of those inks that seems to "stick" at the top of a converter so that you might get some start or restart problems.
When I'm swapping nibs in my Lamy pens I can usually stand the new nib on a sheet of kitchen paper with my left hand while I'm dipping and cleaning the previous nib in clean water then drying it with my right hand. Mostly the latest swap in nib will start to flow before the previous nib is dried and returned to the small pot where i keep the 6 different nibs. With Mi#56 that did not happen. The ink stuck at the top of the converter and when the swapped in nib was in the pen it didn't flow for a short time. It needed to be dipped before it flowed. some nibs need to be dipped and some don't. This ink needed to be dipped before any flow happened.

I already had a pen in green when the samples arrived and I don't know why I didn't compare them until now, once I'm back home I'd like to see a swab of them next to each other

A small "guest" writing sample with the three mystery inks on Kokuyo Business paper (which has a slight ivory tint):



As for the guesses, for #54 as Chrissy said Kyo-No-Oto Hisoku, I'll go with Wearingeul Lost instead.
For #55 I wanted to say KWZ Honey or Old Gold, but the ink doesn't seem to have the typical KWZ smell, so that leaves so many choices...Diamine Sepia or Tobacco Sunburst, L'Artisan Pastellier Callifolio Heure Doree (don't believe it's this one), Colorverse Smoky Bourbon...I'm at loss.
And for #56, well I'm even more at loss so I'll try with Conklin Kelly Green, or Dominant Industry Forest. Could it just be Waterman Harmonious green? That was my initial thought but after having looked at online reviews I had changed my mind. My only Waterman green dates from the 60's or so so I have nothing to compare!

MI 56 on mead five star cheap paper.
To my eyes it really does look very close to waterman harmonious green when I compare writing samples I have of harmonious green side by side with MI 56 (I doubt I'm right since I never get that lucky), harmonious green does feel slightly more lubricated and a little wetter but that could just be the difference in pens.
The cartridge of harmonious green I have in my pen is just about bone dry so it's being a little difficult to get enough ink out to do a swab of both side by side but I would still like to so I might end up cutting the cartridge open so I can really get a q tip in there

It's a disposable cart and I already have extras that I can use if I want to use them for some reason, but the big thing is I really really want to do a side by side swab instead of just writing a sentence with them next to each other

I tried everything to get a drop out of the cartridge with no luck, so finally cut it to get the little bit of ink that was stuck to the walls with a q tip. The q tip barely turned green there was so little, mainly just the inside of the cartridge stained green. I guess when I wrote that one sentence it was using what little bit was left in the feed because it barely wrote a note that I left myself. The next closest I had to 56 is noodlers marine green but it's more of a straight green than MI 56

MI #54 is an ink that benefits from a wet writer and a nib size that is medium or broad. It provides nice shading potential. It is Troublemaker Inks Abalone.

MI #56 is an exclusive ink that can only be purchased at Pen Chalet. I enjoy both the dark teal color and shading in cursive writing. It is Robert Oster Monsoon Sky.

(And darn it, I almost said #54 was Abalone, but what I found online looked more purple to me)
