Mystery Inks #54, 55, and 56

I'm expecting it anytime early next week! Canada Post is quite slow...you have Mondays and Fridays, and then you have the days when they don't even bother ringing. But usually the mail is properly handled and rarely arrives destroyed...you can't have it all!

The tape is called Parafilm-m that is used in laboratories for sealing. You can purchase it from Amazon.

Now the question is, which pen to use for which ink, to bring them to the office tomorrow?

Chromas, 54 seems very intriguing like maybe a really good shading ink or possibly a sheening ink, some very nice colors came out of that one.
55 a little more monochromatic but a nice honey to dark brown
56 looks so much darker than I would have expected when I made the line on the strip for the test, I'm hoping to see some interesting shading from that ink too

So far I've filled 3 Lamy pens that currently have M nibs and done the swab tests. The middle part of the swab test is where I dab the inky end of the cotton bud along the swab card in a line.
It's a technique I've been using to show up shimmer and sheen on a few other inks.....

I inked 3 pens this morning and used them for the day at the office. #54 was much lighter on paper than anticipated from the sample tube. It's both quite wet, and lowly lubricated. Quite strange, and maybe there's something I'm not getting there.
Looks almost like a chromoshading like Sailor Ink studio #123. Maybe something from Troublemaker's or one of the other Korean brands?

#56 appears to me a more standard green at first sight, but I think there's more to it. I made the mistake of inking a Jinhao 80 with it (as to be able to change the nibs) but it seals so poorly (I had forgotten that) the ink darkens a lot between the morning and the afternoon. Unfortunately I have nothing in the same shades of green to compare...and I don't think it's Lamy green.

I haven't played much with #55 so far, closest I have is Diamine Brandy Dazzle without the glitters!

Haha I know, just been awfully busy with work these last few days. All good now.

Since tonight we have the Pelikan hubs, here's a test on Pelikan paper:



I have to say I'm quite disappointed in that paper, it's very smooth but has a tendency to "suck" inks, widening the lines and killing all attempts at sheening. Also a lot of ghosting.
(It does very well for me with super fine nibs and inks like Platinum blue-black).

Mystery #55 did very well with the Falcon SEF, and so did #54.
I tried to get out of my comfort zone and am not pleased by the result...will try to think of a good pen match for #56. After having tried these inks, I don't even know why I keep all these Lamy nibs...Z50 in EF/F/M, Z53 in EF, even the Z55 in EF I don't like much after all.

Mystery Trio

Did some playing around with this latest batch of MI ™️, on different papers, but with all the same pens: Dollar Demonstrators. I know they put down a fairly generous line, and they're good enough for one of the major pen shows to use as ink testers.

On Cosmo Air Light.



On Kokuyo Campus.



On MiquelRius.



Drops on Tissue.



Paper towel chroma flowers.



So far, I'm enjoying all these inks, so many thanks to junglejim for the fun.
