This Sheaffer Balance oversize. It has the best performing extra-fine flex nib I've experienced in any pen over the decades. I originally moved the nib from a marine green Balance, then to a black and pearl Balance (where other EF flex fans got to know this nib at pen shows, and twisting my arm to let it go was in vain) and finally to my favorite color Balance in ebonized pearl. I wonder if its mother of pearl makes it ineligible for the Black Pen Society.

This is like asking a parent which is their favorite child. The best I could do was narrow it down to three, and I feel like I'm betraying a bunch of others including a Montblanc, two Duofolds, another Pelikan, two smaller Sheaffers from the '30s, and a Mabie Todd.

Anyway, they are, from left to right:

An oversisized Sheaffer Balance from the 1930s with a needle point nib, a standard size Sailor 1911 with a Michael Masuyama cursive italic grind on a 21K nib, and a Pelikan M205 with a broad oblique stub, also a Michael Masuyama grind.

I have the same pen, but swapped out the V-flex nib as it never wrote well for me. Beautiful pen, indeed!

These Jinhao are NOT my favorites, though they write well enough. I got them because Easter Egg colors, the neat little tin box, and the included bottle of 'Jink.' (Jinhao+ Ink). And fifteen bucks for the set.

Did this work? There should be a pic (not mine) of a Platinum 3776 Bourgogne, Med., continuously inked since I got it several years ago.

I just got one in plain ol' black, SF. Took some trial and error to get used to it. I suspect that may be kind of a favorite, too.

Dang. Somebody "replied with quote" and I saw that, and somehow it got stuck in my head that it was their fave. It sure is a beauty!

When someone asked me which is my favorite, I just show them my favorite ... of the week.
