Default Looking for Friends of "Kia"

    Hello, Asian Pens Forum,

Do any of you remember a Senior Member named Kia? She also posted on FPN as "Kiavonne."

Kia - or Kiavonne - was very active on the FP websites in 2009 - 2014, but only sporadically after that, last posting here I think once in 2018 and 2022.

My name is Eric Brownell and Kia/Kiavonne was my cousin, Kimy Rodgers, of Lakewood, CO. Sadly, Kimy passed away in July of 2023, and I've become the custodian of her extensive pen collection on behalf of her surviving father and brother in Montana.

I'm looking for enthusiasts who might remember her and her collection, which numbers about 130 and quite an assortment of brands/models. She might be remembered in your world for her prized Danitrio Maki-e Urushi pieces.

I am new to fountain pens and collecting, so I would sincerely appreciate any education, advice or contacts you might have to offer about who would be most interested in knowing more about Kimy's beloved pens.

    Thank you,

    Eric Brownell

I 'knew' Kimy only a little. We would chat on FPN and exchanged just a couple of written letters. Once or twice I reached out after things seemed quiet, only to not get a response, and I am very sorry for your loss. She was a sweet voice.

I know and trust Teri Morris of Peyton Street Pens. If there is the chance that you are going to sell her collection, Teri purchases estate collections. She is knowledgeable, fair, and a very decent person. If you are seeking general knowledge on the pens and *not* disposing of them, Fred's suggestion is a very good start. I would be wary of posting a lot of pictures, etc, as you may attract sharks trying to low-ball purchase the lot, but you can always test the waters with a few pics of particular items you are curious about.

Sincere condolences on the loss of a good person.

ETA: Oops, sorry, I've just seen a couple of your other posts on individual pens.

I see that the OP is in Colorado. So is Kirk Speer of Pen Realm. He also buys complete collections and sells pens from them on his website.
He has been selling pens from a collector in Houston TX who died.

Jon Szanto thank you for your kind words, as well as your reply on my mystery pen post. I also appreciate your cautions about who to avoid, exactly the sort of advice I was looking for.

Teri Morris of Peytons Steet Pens sounds like an interesting contact, I have come across that website and it looks really professional. A poster named Chrissy also suggested a Colorado contact, and this info is very helpful!

The family is interested in selling the collection, and I think we'll want to separate the Maki-e pens into their own collection, and seek out that specific group of enthusiasts. They sound especially passionate among the collectors!

Thank you again for your kind assistance.

    Eric

    Question to the Post:

If I'm responding to a specific person would I use the '@' + member name or something similar?

I remember reading post from Kiavonne in FPN. Really sad to hear of a pen enthusiast passing away, my condolences to the family.
Also, this kind of news always make me think what would happen with my pens if/when I am gone...not that it would really matter to me, but I wouldn't like my family to sell them for a very cheap price to any vulture in the business.

Thank you for your condolences, Manolo, I'm hoping to avoid the vultures and find the true enthusiasts in these forums.

I have another post Trying to Identify this Pen that has photos of what I believe to be an Urushi finish, and she left some very interesting Danitrio Urushi/Maki-e pens.
