Default favorite greens that came out the last 3-4 years?

I am looking for a green ink, for a dear friend. But I have lost track of the newer inks over the last 3-4 years. Is there a new one that is a must have? She will not be changing inks much, and will have a pen that may sit a few days. She likes shading inks. I think it would be safe to say a high sheen ink is probably not the best choice. Some water resistance would be good, and does not need to be waterproof. If you know of any that would fit the bill, please let me know! I know there are several ink lovers out there who try the new inks. :-)
She will have only one pen, but yes a very good one.

For a darker olive green I like Taccia Uguisi. Shades into yellow green when diluted with water in a wash. However it might be simplest for you to look at the blog "mountain of ink" and use her link for green inks where you can see every swatch and click through to the ink review.

Do you know by any chance what shade of green she likes?
What is her nib? Ef/F etc...
And what type of paper she normally uses?
These all affect the behavior of the ink.

I would say that she would like a medium green, not too light...to a darker green. She used to use fountain pens when young, but currently does not have one yet. It will be a med size Japanese nib, but may get ground into a stub...not sure yet on that.

I am going to give her some quality paper, so that is not an issue. I was going to buy her a Seven Seas journal, but found they changed the paper now. She wants blank paper and does not like dots etc...

I have heavily researched all of the greens up to the point in time I mentioned. I have some favorites of course, but this would only apply to new inks I do not know about yet.

I looked at it, and it is pretty alright. I have a wide assortment of greens. I was particularly fond of Sailor inks, until they downsized the bottles. I miss Epinard in the green lineup. I do not need any more ink myself, but there is a Kobe I have wanted for a long time.

Although Sailor has downsized their bottles some of the original colours are still in their range.Instead of being Sailor Jentle inks they are now Sailor Shikiori inks and the one closest to Epinard would be Tokiwa Matsu. Also, Sailor now issues hundreds of colours in their Ink Studio inks. If you want a Sailor green ink you will be able to find one there.

You live in Texas. I know it's a huge place but maybe you could pay Dromgoole's a special visit or go to the Dallas pen Show that's coming up? They have vast ink stocks and every ink swabbed in several binders. You would be spoiled for choice there.

I recommend you order a bunch of samples and try them out yourself.

    Waterproof inks
Kakimori Kurun is a wet Japanese pigment ink. Waterproof when dry. Dry times are long. It has a lovely bottle
De Atramentis Document Green Grey is a dreamy nano pigmented ink.
Noodler's Akhmatova is another good ink.

But these might be in the long run, high maintenance inks.

Otherwise, I really liked Herbin Vert de Gris. I hope @mizgeorge chimes in. She has a lot of fabulous greens.

Hey Chrissy, thank you. I do have Tokiwa Matsu, and yes I love it. I bought one bottle of Epinard when they came back out with it for a short time. This was I think before they downsized the bottle. It looks like unless my friend changes his mind, I will not be going to the pen show, sadly. He does not like driving to Dallas either. Dromgoole's is a few hours away from me. I have been to the pen show before a good while back, and yes bought from Dromgoole's a couple of times at least. I have also ordered ink from them before. Dallas is not too far to drive really, it is dealing with that traffic that I dislike so much. Yes I do love looking at color swabs, and I have so much ink now, I could never use it all in my lifetime as it is lol. But I do enjoy the ink varieties so much!

I spent so long on your reply that I got signed out, and did not know it until I hit send...wow. This ink will be for my friend, and I think low maintenance is best, shading is good, waterproof is not wanted-water resistant is preferable.

I have not heard of the first brand, will check on that. Also ty for the Noodler's Akhmatova...I have two of their bulletproof inks already, but not this one.

Otherwise, I really liked Herbin Vert de Gris. It is very similar to other inks I have, and yes it is lovely.

    Me too!

Thank you, I have never heard of that site before and can tell I will be spending time there lol

Thank you, it says Noodler's Burma Road Brown is similar, I love that one too, and have it. I love GvFC-Moss Green for a good overall green ink, and to me it is pretty low maintenance. I have tried so many green inks, it is incredible. I am not planning to buy more Sailor ink, since they went to the smaller bottles at the same price. That is a shame because it was one of my top two ink brands, if not the top overall. I replied to your quotes, but they are not showing, but my friend likes shading inks, and her fav color is green. She does not want waterproof ink, water resistant is preferable. She does like shading, and I think low maintenance ink is preferable at this time. Thank you for the links, and thoughts.

I decided to go with a safe, low maintenance ink. I can send a sample of GvFC Moss Green. I also am going to send two ink samples that are not green. Thank you for your thoughts to everyone who replied!

Have you looked at Mountain of Ink? Swabs, writing tests, all on different papers with different pens.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

And my latest ebook, for spooky wintery reading:

Thank you Sailor, yes I have. I started watching that link before I guess they were better known. I already ordered the ink for my friend. Nothing fancy, low maintenance. If something had been new and outstanding, I would've gone for it though. Seems nothing big was out, that I have not already tried for the most part. I did get two inks for me, that have been on my wish list a long time though. Both brown inks, oh well I think I have plenty of brown now lol. I think I have more green though, which is my favorite color.
