Default Early Parker 51 cap repairs

    Hi all

A question for the more experienced pen repair experts out there.

I plan on learning how to repair minor dings in Parker 51 caps, and have bought the appropriate equipment to remove the inner clutch and cap. Now the question I understand that some of the early 51 caps cannot simply have the clutch pulled out as the edge of the cap is rolled after the clutch is inserted at the factory and to successfully remove it requires more specialised equipment to first un-roll the lip and then re-roll the lip after repair.

So how long did Parker roll the lip on there 51's I have a couple from the late forties which do not have the lip, was it something they only did on the first couple of years, both mine are USA made vacumatics so I assume it was not done with aerometric caps.

Anyone got the equipment to un-roll and re-roll the lip care to show some pictures of it, not that I have the abilities to make one, just wondered what it looks like, or do most repairers just remove the lip and turn the cap into a lipless version.

Thanks for any help with this

    Paul

All 51 caps with a basket clutch have a 'rolled' edge as you put it. The difference is in the first year caps that had a different clutch style.

You use the clutch puller to unroll the lip as you extract the clutch. Some pullers will extract all three types of clutches, others only the last style.

    Thanks for the reply.

What is the process after the lip has been un-rolled, do you what's involved in re-rolling the lip, oris it left un-rolled.

    Thanks
