Conway Stewart 100 - Input Please

Hello.

I've been looking at the Conway Stewart site at the Series 100. It not being an inexpensive pen, I'm soliciting input and user experience to help move me toward or away from the pen.

Please share your thoughts and experiences please

It’s a bog standard #6 gold nib in some really nice material, marketed with a lot of history and nostalgia, and fancy words like “bespoke”.

Generally, I like ‘em; but I would be lying if I didn’t admit they’re overpriced.

As for the 100 itself, nice medium sized pen. I don’t think there’s anything to criticize.

are you looking for a modern or vintage one? I prefer and have bought vintage ones as a matter of fact. They write nicely and are quite big in the hand, say like a PFM III.

I'm looking modern.
But I'm not opposed at all to vintage. The challenges I have with vintage are 1) learning what models are comparable size-wise and 2) finding a vintage in good writing condition that really is what its purported to be. Finding trustworthy sellers isn't easy IMHO. Recommendations gladly accepted

I may be 'antique' but to me a Conway Stewart 100 has to be lever filler not cartridge/converter. Sorry 😊

Hi….IMHO there’s really not a whole lot of difference between the CS100 ….and most of their other pens from the same era 👈🏻.
But judging by some of the prices attached to the 100 , you’d think it had magic powers !!!!!
It’s really just a wee bit fatter . Other than that you’d get most of the other CS pens for half the price …..and they are just as great.

The CS pens from that era are quite nice , solid reliable , and with usually buttery smooth nibs. So pick a cheaper model with a lovely colour …286 etc and you’ll have an equally great pen if that’s the type your into, for a lot les$ 👍🏻👍🏻
And keep an eye on 'Writetime' UK ….an excellent site with a great selection of CS ….AND most often very competitive prices….. and Barry is a great bloke 👍🏻👍🏻

And…don’t waste your money on 'modern' CS pens…..monster money for really nothing better than their older pens

I think of the comments about the quality of the Conway Stewart range are unfair, the same accusations could equally be leveled at Montblanc. I have several pens from the 1950's, which I enjoy using and that was when the company was still at the top of its game after some fifty years. I have one CS 100 and two CS 58's from the 1990s and I think that the pens produced back were better quality than the current production. I did have a CS Churchill from the same vintage which I very much regret selling.
The current CS broad nibs are not truly broad nibs, more like medium, but I am very happy with the pens from the 1990's period and would happily buy more from then if I could get some, but they don't seem to come up for sale all that often.

I do not have a new 100, but I have 2 Churchills, a Winston, and a Doctor's Pen from the present-day BBP production, with JoWo nibs, including mecd, broad and med stub. My wife has a Dinky, a Dandy, and A Series 58. All are of excellent quality. Thje writing characteristics of all versions of nibs are pretty much the best of all my many hundreds of pens. Are they pricey? Yes, but they are built like a [insert favourite construction material and sanitary facility here].
In the case of one of the Churchills, the 2022 Christmas pen, they even did a special engraving.northpolecap copy.jpg

I still have 2 Conway Stewart's. A Churchill and a Marlborough, both lever fill.
Both have fine CI nibs and they are similar to the Franklin Christoph SIG nibs.
Dynamite pens.

I'm going to look at vintage CS models. Where might I find a resource that shows dimensions of the various models? I'm particularly interested in unposted lengths as I seldom post a pen when using it.
