    Default EFNIR: Noodler's Kiowa Pecan

Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Noodler's Kiowa Pecan

This is review #257 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This is a very nice brown. Cleaning was a royal pain: I had to use a swab inside the cartridge and on the back of the nib, I used a brush on the feed, but there was no reaching all the parts of the section where the ink was stuck, so it's in the ultrasonic cleaner - with the feed for good measure... And, round 1 followed by a rinse got most of it out. Still waiting on round 2. Am also still waiting for the review paper to dry so I can scan it... Round 2 did the trick! (The ink is still not dry.)

The microscope slide was boring as can be, but did show some particles like pigment, even if it's not pigment. Said particles are grey and clung to the slide. I had to wipe them off (used dish soap to help release them, but I don't think it was necessary, just wanted to reduce micro-scratches).

NOTE: This ink was renamed to just "Pecan". Advertised as partially bulletproof, forgery resistant.

Errata: "When Makhabes ..." should have an "h" at the end of his name!

Zoomed in photo (Color is very close.)

Screenshot (Color is close, perhaps a little dark.)

Scan of Completed Review (Text is a little lighter than real life, but still quite close.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Colors are off in ways I don't know how to describe - too saturated and red?)

Line width (The "I" in "Ink:" Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 296µm. With 257 inks measured, the average line width is 295µm.)

Thanks, Liz! With three strikes against it, this is not the ink for me.

But I love reading your reviews for the above reasons and more. If it's an ink I've had, there is the fun of comparison. And of course the story! The Thourth fading? Aiyeeee! 🙀

Another excellent review @LizEF to make our Tuesdays, wetter and in dire need of blotting paper

You're very welcome. Somehow I knew this wouldn't skyrocket to the top of your list.

Thank you! Indeed. I'm pondering making this my replacement for "eternity".

Hmm. A bit late for that. I'll have to feed this idea into the back of my brain and see what it comes up with.

Goodness! It can't be Tuesday again already. I've clearly lost all track of time - I'm going to blame the clocks going back last weekend.

Thank you Liz for such a thorough review as always, and for once again reminding me why I don't have this ink. Actually, I don't really do Noodlers in the first place, but there are one or two colours that occasionally tempt me, and then I see how they behave...

And whilst the thource may be fading, I'm just looking forward to our intrepid adventurers getting out of the horrid place.

It's been that sort of 2 months for me! But... What!? Your clocks have already gone back? Ours don't turn back until the coming Sunday. Personally, I consider Daylight Shifty Time (a more accurate name since nothing is "saved" but the clocks are shifted for shifty reasons) to be just plain evil.

You're very welcome! Happy to save money and put you at ease regarding your ink choices.

Indeed, they will be happy to get off the curséd Isle of Diaminnia and be on their way to their next adventure - whatever that is. Our climax confrontation begins next week.

I actually like this ink, as one of the few Noodlers Inks that behave well for me. I like the color, I like the water resistance, and it doesn't have a long dry time (not my bottle anyway) and it doesn't do that weird penetrating seep through the paper that other Noodler's inks do (does anyone know what causes that? Is it alcohol?)

One of my favorites. Did you shake your bottle first to make sure the Bulletproof dark portion blended into the lighter portion?

M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
    A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
    A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
    A: Yes it is!
    M: No it isn't!

Thanks, Jaguarish! I think the dry time is aggravated by the environment where I am. A sciencey experiment is pending (waiting for my time to free up). But even so, I think with non-absorbent paper, this ink takes longer to dry than average.

Mine is a sample, but yes, I did shake it up.
