Wow, that is so three dimensional. It doesn't look like ink, it looks like something else sitting on top of the paper. Amazing. Thanks for sharing.

The parts of the video where the angle of the light is very low does make it look 3-D and floating on top of the paper.

How'd he do that? His website is pretty great, too. Somewhere on one of his sites, he interviews Gary Lehrer and other pen folks at a pen show in Germany. (I think-but can't find it now, though. Argggh. ) From his self-effacing manner, you'd never know Mr. Unbehauen is one of the world's best calligraphers. Thanks for posting it!

What is he writing with? That thing is bananas! And his ink is so thick it looks like you could pick it up and throw it at people!

He makes his own fountain pens using dip pen nibs - looks like a Brause 361 or just possibly a Leonardt shorthand nib in these videos. Clearly the feeds are extremely generous! No idea about the ink, given the way the line holds up it may well be a calligraphers' type. He's also pretty good with a Montblanc.

Some pens to look at (German language).

Really beautiful. Makes me want to run and practice writing, but in comparison I'm hopeless.

Yes Peter is a great caligrapher. You should see the Ueber (over) flex fountain pens he makes. Those are some serious flex pens. I wish I could find out a way to buy one of them.

Last time I checked with him he was not selling his uber-flex pens.

It's not exactly obvious, is it? He doesn't give a price for the Überflex pens, so perhaps it's a case of asking nicely. It appears that his email address for sales is k@lligrafie.de.

Thank you both. I did email him already and he referred me back to his pen website where I could see some prices but not for the uber-flex pen. One day I'll drop him an email to see if I could come over personally to see the pens as I go often enough to Hamburg where he lives. My wife is German so she could ask him to find out for sure if he sells them or not and how much of course.

I just tried doing some of these letter forms with my wet noodle Watermen 52, this pen is really wet, yet could not keep up. Not even close. What a cool pen and boy would I make a mess of it if I was so lucky to own one. Ink everywhere! Thanks for posting such an inspirational clip.

From what I could see was that in the first video, if you look very close, on the part where it looks 3-D, the grids on the paper move as he writes. It's very suttle. What I can tell he is writing on something clear over the grid paper.
The writing that doesn't look 3-D looks like normal. His form is very beautiful.
He sure dumps a ton of ink. It must take forever to dry
