Cool Octopus - Write and Draw - Violet Giraffe

Octopus - Write and Draw - Violet Giraffe
This belongs to Write and Draw line of nano-pigment inks. They are waterproof, light fast, and ISO certified.
The complete line up the 38 inks are here:

I really enjoyed using this, elegant, classy ink. It’s a gorgeous purple, very well lubricated, especially pleasant to write with.

However, it does not like copy paper. I went as far as inking a wet vintage pen and regretted it, as the amount of ink it spewed out made it impossible to control the pen, so I won’t recommend you filling your Pelikan “firehose” with a triple B nib 😜

Octopus has a host of warning on their site.

So as a test, I let it dry up a bit in my Lamy Safari, basically forgetting it for a week or so, letting evaporation do its thing. Still the cleaning was surprisingly easy.

I was disappointed when I did the water test. The ink is water resistant but lost a bit of it's charm.

In conclusion, I would recommend this ink for a well sealed, dry-ish pen.

    Chroma is uninspiring:

This ink is a snob. It does not like copy paper.

I have no ink that remotely approaches this one:

Water test: I was surprised/ disappointed by the result as you can see the ink was partially removed under running water.

and finally a tiny art work, General Giraffe:
The other ink is J Herbin, Ambre de Birmanie:

    · Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef, Lamy Safari (EF/F/M/B/Stub 1.1), Conway Stewart 330 double oblique flex (very wet)
    · What I liked: Elegant, classy colour, breathtaking will almost all nibs,
    · What I did not like: Not 100% waterproof, not a deal breaker, but I was expecting more from a pigment ink, longish dry times.
    · What some might not like: Longish dry times, hates copy paper…
    · Shading: Medium onwards
    · Ghosting: Yes, on copy paper
    · Bleed through: Yes, on copy paper
    · Flow Rate: Wet
    · Lubrication: Excellent.
    · Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    · Start-up: Not noticed.
    · Saturation: Delicious.
    · Shading Potential: I can’t see much.
    · Sheen: Faint with the very wet nib.
    · Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Yes, on copy paper.
    · Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not noticed.
    · Staining (pen): No.
    · Clogging: No.
    · Cleaning: No.
    · Water resistance: Very good but the excess ink washed off.
    · Availability: 50 ml

Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier

Thanks, Yazeh, for showing us another intriguing ink. This appears to me, at least, as a deep brown purple. It might even work in my quest for The Just Right Watercolor Over Sketching Ink.

I salute General Giraffe along with Water Test Mousie, and always look forward to your ink reviews.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

Thank you so much. I'm not sure if it's the best ink for watercolor, as it was partially removed under water. I'd recommend a sample and testing

Fab review - thank you as always, and especially for the sketches, which are what make all of these so very special.

Luckily, given it's slightly disappointing performance, this is one of the rare colours in the range that doesn't really appeal to me, so I think I'm safe!

It is strange that it's so much less water resistant than others though.

Thanks for another wonderful review, Yazeh!

It's unusual for these dusky purples to have even good lubrication, never mind excellent, so you've found a winner right there! It's so dark - looks even darker than Sailor Chushu. But perhaps a little more purple than Colorverse Vortex Motion (which you wouldn't know was purple without dilution or chroma).

The drawings are still my favorite part - I'm jealous of Mr. Mouse with his heli-umbrella! Where do we buy one of those And General Giraffe is looking very distinguished in his dress uniform!

Thanks for pointing that out. In my experience anything with a Kakuno Ef goes from scratchy to very scratchy (if ink is dry( and not the other way round. However, a few other Japanese Ef including Platinums, were much more pleasurable that the pilot in question

Love it. In the good old days, when I was rich, I would have gone out and bought the domain thourthe.com and had a mock website up for you to visit, complete with one product - the heli-umbrella. (And maybe the slow-flying carpet soon to come...) Thank you for the smile and laughter. (And yes, thourthe.com is available.)

I wonder how this one compares to Yoseka Ceramic series Qin Purple.
