Default Chinese pen has off centre breather hole

I just received the first real fountain I have purchased in many many years. I looked at the nib and the breather hole is skewed quite a bit to the right with the slit just touching the left side of the hole. It doesn't seem correct to me. I have sent a message to the seller on AliE.

Does this happen often? Should the nib be replaced (by the seller of course)? Am I being too picky about a $30 pen?

    Thanks for any insight.

That's particularly bad no matter how much you spent on it. I would return and either get money back or a properly made nib/pen. It is conceivable that it would function properly but it is so far off that I'd never be able to look at it without cringing. The better brands of Chinese pens have better quality control and are still reasonably priced.

Thank you. I looked at it again and it is disconcerting. I just can't give this as a gift; it doesn't look like first quality. It is a Majohn/Moonman so a decent quality maker. It certainly appears to be a manufacturing reject item that slipped through quality control or originally purchased as a second. I'll see what the seller has to say. I haven't cleaned or inked it up yet so I don't know how it writes but I certainly know what it looks like.

I agree: once seen, you can't unsee it. I consider those brands a 2nd tier in Chinese pens, even though they are very popular from a low-price point. The machining and finishing on their pens is not on par with PenBBS, Asvine, and many of the newer Jinhao products. IMHO.

I have 3 Mahjohn/Moonman eye dropper fill pens but both of my Moonman C2's came with Jinhao M nibs that are wonderful writers. My Mahjohn Q1 with fude nib was a special birthday gift and it also writes beautifully.

I agree with Jon here that the misaligned nib on your pen is unacceptable and needs to be returned for exchange or refund. I would never be able to unsee it either.

Jon and Chrissy, thanks for your response. I have contacted the seller. They have offered to send another nib unit. The nib unit on the Majohn V1 just screws out so easy replacement. As the rest of the pen looks fine and I can hear the vacuum system working, this seems like an acceptable route. When I take off my glasses I can't see the nib. This is my first foray into Asian pens. The Penbbs stuff does look better. I write tiny so an EF nib is for me. My usual implement is a .5mm mechanical pencil.
