    Cool Pelikan Edelstein Rose Quartz

    Pelikan Edelstein Rose Quartz
    Ink of the Year 2023

Many thanks to @Lithium466 for the sample.

It’s a chameleon of an ink. It has a lot of character with Ef to M nibs and gorgeous with flex, where the halo effect is accentuated.
However, with Japanese Ef, B & Stub nibs it was just a plain boring pink.

It doesn’t like copy paper. Ink is wet with slightly below average lubrication.

You can check this excellent overview on the other side

    Let's start with the chorma:

    Writing Samples:
Quotes are at best attributed. As far as I know Mahler had only one wife.
    Rhodia- Rose Quartz.jpg

    Midori - Rose Quartz.jpeg

    TR68gr - Rose Quartz.jpeg

    Hammermill - Rose Quartz.jpg

And finally an art work, inspired by a Japanese vintage photograph and block prints (The Lady and the Warrior):
    Other inks used are
Platinum Carbon Black and Kuretake Shimbashi Iro

    · Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef, Lamy (EF/F/M/B, 1.1), Kanwrite with an Ahab nib.
    · What I liked: The halo effect and murky pink.
    · What I did not like: With B/ Stub nibs. Very Pale with Japanese Ef
    · What some might not like: The colour, paleness.
    · Shading: I didn’t see much.
    · Ghosting: Yes, on copy paper
    · Bleed through: Same as above.
    · Flow Rate: Wet
    · Lubrication: Below average.
    · Nib Dry-out: Did not notice.
    · Start-up: Did not notice.
    · Saturation: Not saturated.
    · Shading Potential: With flex nibs.
    · Sheen: Hint of halo.
    · Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Yes, on copy paper.
    · Nib Creep / “Crud”: Did not notice.
    · Staining (pen): Did not notice.
    · Clogging: Did not notice.
    · Cleaning: Should be easy.
    · Water resistance: Not so good.
    · Availability: 50 ml bottles.

Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier

Very pretty color, Yazeh, and excellent review. I have Rouge Opera; poor Kitteh holding his ears made me smile, though I love opera, just watched Distant Harmony featuring the Pavarotti tour of China.

Love the sketch, too. Thanks again for your Ink-Splorations. 👏🏻

My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

Thank you, Yazeh, for another fun review! Chameleon: it is interesting how many different shades of pink this thing produces. Chroma is also interesting. The flex nib on Rhodia is a color I like - bold and bright, slight purple lean - but that pastel pink on Midori!? Blech!

But the main attraction, as always, is your drawings! Rose Quartz swatch kitty looks a little smitten. Not sure I noticed Rachmaninoff before, but love piano-kitty! Rouge Opera kitty and mouse are absolutely hilarious! And I'm poor kitty with Star Rubies for eyes may need an ophthalmologist.

Quartzy-water-test-kitty (and presumed flying-umbrella-mouse) is looking a bit sharp around the edges... I guess this is what happens when you make a kitty out of quartz...

And I love the block print drawing! That samurai mouse in her hair is perfect. And little kitty's thinking: "Where's my treat?"

Thanks for the thorough review, Yazeh!

I yet have to try/ review Rouge Opera. In my younger years, I was quite an opera fan

Yeah, it's very pen/ paper dependant ink. I would say, it's an ink that doesn't leave you indifferent. I certainly hate a wall painted in this colour. It's reminds me of a 90s hospital

    Thanks. Glad you liked them

The drawing was done in many steps and with several rounds of practice, especially with the samurai mouse It's funny how some drawings just work out themselves and some you have to figure them out

Oh, ugh! Thanks for that image. (Not!) Maternity ward or something.

Your practice paid off - he's a very nice little samurai.

Thank you @Yazeh for another fab review!

This was an ink I didn't expect to like. I have mixed feelings about the entire Edelstein range, but I've quite enjoyed this one, in spite of it not being my favourite shade of pink.

I utterly love the Lady and the Warrior Mouse. I am so impressed with your drawings at the moment - they are without exception truly inspired!

Another lovely treat in a rather dismal month.

Surprisingly I enjoyed most on this absorbent paper. But no on regular FP paper
