    Default Totally new

Okay, maybe not totally new. I dabbled, poorly, with calligraphy a while back and even tried a glass nib (we allowed to talk non fountain pens here?) Anyway, I have close to a dozen cheap pens. They all write well enough for me, but I have ink issues. I got two samplers from Daimine (cheap and 6 colors). A few I really like but I can't find a blue that is not too dark. Is it common/okay to mix colors? I have taken a really dark blue, a little water and some purple to make a decent color but it seems to come out think. I have some med nibs (.5 when they say) and some fine (.3, again if they say) I like the fine better especially with subtle inks like gray and the darker blues.... Med nibs seem to put out too much ink and saturates the darkness. Is there a way to thicken ink?

Okay total noob as is apparent from questions across the board.
