Default Ink Review: Cult Pens Chichen Itza - Wonders of the World series - Diamine Exclusive

Today I'm reviewing Cult Pens Chichén Itzá ink, one of their exclusive inks made by Diamine Inks. It is one of a series of inks inspired by modern Wonders of the World and by 'modern' they mean still in existence. This is what Cult Pens says about this ink:

"Chichen Itza was a pre-Columbian city constructed by the Mayans in modern day Mexico. Once a major focal point in the Northern Maya Lowlands, Chichen Itza is one of the largest cities built by the Mayans and is believed to have been one of the mythical great cities (Tollans) referred to in later Mesoamerican literature. Chichen Itza is a beautiful blue-grey inspired by the Grey Limestone blocks used to construct the ancient pyramids, temples, columned arcades and other stone structures found at Chichen Itza."

Chichén Itzá is an unsaturated, blue grey ink that shows up some nice shading. It’s a pale ink that feels nice to write with. Flow felt noticeably better with broader nibs as did depth of colour. Lubrication across the page was good.

It didn’t suffer from any hard starts or skips when I put the uncapped pen down to do swab tests, dry times and water resistance. It dried quickly on most papers and once dry it didn’t smudge or smear.

There were no start-up problems after leaving the pens overnight.

There wasn't much show through or bleed through on most of the papers I used.

    • Flow Rate: Good.
    • Lubrication: Good
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Unsaturated ink.
    • Shading Potential: Nice shading seen.
    • Sheen: No sheen seen.
    • Show-Through: Not much seen on most papers. The worst was a cheap Banner pad.
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not seen.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen.
    • Staining (pen): Not seen after several days in the pen. Very easy clean-up.
    • Staining (hands): Clean after one wash.
    • Clogging: Not seen. Seems unlikely.
    • Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof but showed surprising water resistance.
    • Availability: 80ml glass bottles or 30ml plastic bottles exclusively available from Cult Pens, UK.

My grateful thanks to Diamine Inks for sending me this sample to review.

You're very welcome. Glad you like it. I've also reviewed Colosseum and Taj Mahal from this series. They are in the Ink Review Index. I still have the rest of them to review but I seem to have been taking a while.

You're very welcome. Yes it's an unusual chroma for the ink colour.

I love this one, and use it a lot. It's very like one of the German specials (hey, ho, let's write from memory) and shares the purple/pink lurking in the chroma.

    Thank you for the review!

You're very welcome. Would you believe it I knew it would be like one of the Hey Ho inks and planned to use the closest one as a comparison. Then that went completely out of my mind and I used different comparison inks. Doh! I might try and substitute onein somehow as a couple of my comparisons aren't particularly close. Thank you for the steer.
