I grew up using FORTRAN and my knowledge and computer skills are pretty much limited to just user skills. What is involved in blocking a user, and secondly can moderators just delete these spam messages one at a time? I realize that doing so would be time consuming, but this is getting to be a real drag on the site.

The biggest hindrance is the exo-facto owner/moderator no longer has an active interest in maintaining the board properly. He has been contacted ad infinitum about the need(s), to no avail. And for that & other reasons, I've already unsubscribed from their vlogs, & am contemplating no longer doing business with his associated shop.

The spamming is supposedly being committed by one of the butt-hurt members, who has taken it upon himself to disrupt the board operations, for whatever there is about him that finds some kind of pleasure in making the lives of others as miserable as possible. That's the part I can't wrap my mind around -- can you imagine living your life with that kind of sickness tormenting you? It's really sad.

This matter is being currently discussed in at least two other threads here.

Most of the "spam" on this site is the result of a single, disgruntled & mentally ill individual who uses innumerable aliases as a result of his egregious abuse of his employer's VPN. Even if we had an active moderator it is unlikely that they could put an end to this whacko's nonsense. It would be like a game of "Whack-A-Mole!"

Posts complaining about it fuel this deranged indivdual's fantasies. Effectively, he gets "pleasured" each time he reads a new one.
The only way to get rid of this creep is if everyone simply ignores his nonsense.

What's funny is that these threads complaining about the "spam" have become a form of spam themselves. And the fact is, this is a good forum with very low level disruption. If you want a true shitshow, go to whatever Twitter is now called --- and probably FB and all the others.

Of course, that wouldn't be the case if the owner/administrator took care of business. New people often come to this forum and are a bit baffled, and ask the question as to why this is. Since the person who is supposed to be in charge never answers or takes care of the place, people respond. It is unfortunate, and I am sorry that a once active and valuable forum has become much like a trash-strewn street. But that's just me.

I'm no old chap but if I wanted to moan about something that was happening in the "whole site" then I might not write it as an "off topic" post in the one specific forum that's for selling pens and writing accessories. Two wrongs never make a right. LOL

I agree that the response belongs here, where the spam is happening. Now, technically it probably belongs in another forum, but to put it in the same forum where we are being pestered by the spam is most effective. In my opinion

A good way for the spam to fade away is to just ignore it, by that I mean don't open the posts. I see that is kind of happening judging from the very low number of views that the spam posts are getting.
I for one, have not bothered to open one of them.

Sadly the spam is not just happening here. It's taken over the New Members forum too. Actually this forum does tend to turn over really quickly so maybe it is as good a place as any.

Good point well made. Sadly the spammers like to resurrect old threads to post on. Then other members respond to them and the thread restarts "post-spam" even though the OP might have originally been 10 years ago. It's how it goes.
