    Default Lost River Cave

Once (falsely) claimed in Ripley's "Believe it or Not" to be the world's shortest and deepest river, Lost River in Bowling Green KY is a nice place to visit with youngsters. We went with our 8 YO granddaughter a few weeks ago - it is a quite spectacular boat tour through (at least a part of) a 7-mile long or so cave, once reportedly used by Jesse James as a hide-out after robbing the bank in Russellville, a few miles south of Bowling Green. The water is very blue due to dissolved calcite and glows nicely when lit by lights under the boat. It contrasts nicely with the incandescent flood to light the reddish rocks. If you look hard enough you might see inferi just under the surface of the water - KEEP YOUR HANDS INSIDE THE BOAT.
