Fend was founded in 1900 and is renowned for its metalworking. Although precise data on its origins are not available, the company was headquartered in Pforzheim. In the 1901 patent, Georg Fend and Karl Fend are mentioned, whom we will presume to be the founders. The company is famous for producing high-quality pens with gold or silver laminated metal coatings, which have also been used by other manufacturers. It is believed to have supplied most of the coatings used by Montblanc in the '20s and '30s.
In the latter half of the '20s, Fend opened a subsidiary in Milan under the name "Fratelli Fend di E. Fend", renowned for producing high-quality fountain pens marketed under the Fendograph brand.
