    The joys of fountain pens

Everyone I've shown fountain pens to say they don't want to deal with the hassle of cleaning them or cleaning ink off their hands, then I write with a ink with a lot of sheen, shading, maybe shimmer and they absolutely love the colors but still don't want to "deal with the hassle"

I was wondering if no-one wanted to go first LOL.

Here are my thoughts for MI#57: A lovely rose or raspberry colour. Started off feeling a little bit dry but improved while writing. I prefer its flow and lubrication when writing with broader nibs. I haven't yet tried it on other papers but will do that soon.

Here are some initial previews. Seeing my handwriting on a big screen and not a small A5 page makes me think I need new glasses :/
I tried myself at some q-tips swatching as an attempt to compare the inks better with some online reviews

    Everything on Rhodia Ice

I tore into the beautifully-wrapped packages the moment they arrived and wielded a glass dip pen at first, then loaded all into different pens, finally ending up with NoNami Chinese click-deployed pens, in which they are still loaded.

    All three, dipped

    Brown

    Blue

    Purple

    All together now:

    Chroma

Note the green halo on the 'brown' ink! Chrissy's test shows it better.

Yes, indeed, I like all three inks and am happily writing away. Thanks so much for all the fun, junglejim!

Chroma tests of all 3 mystery inks, I used up the ink in a pen so I could start righting with MI 57. It may be better after it's been in the pen for a day or two, but right now, it seems very dry but is a beautiful color.
I have the second pen in the ultrasonic, so I should be able to ink up MI 58 tomorrow. I did notice with 58 when i opened the vial to do the chromas there was a tiny bit dried to the lip of the vial and it sure a had great blue to red sheen, so I'm hoping some of that is noticeable.
I'll have writing samples tomorrow (umm, I guess later today).
I hate that I'm so far behind, but with only a few pens, and for whatever reason, the MI gets announced right when I refill my pens, lol. I need to have some empty vials laying around that I can empty my pens into without it going into the big bottle of ink and possibly contaminating it.
Hope everyone is doing well and I can't wait to get cause up reading the posts and seeing the art that others do, I just don't like to read how someone felt the pen and ink felt and possibly color my jusdgent.

I wrote with MI#57 on some different papers. I found the most show through on Exacompta but the other papers were OK. It felt a bit dry when writing with the M nib on these papers.

Why does adulting always get in the way of having fun
I'm hoping to get caught up to where I wanted to be by now, I'm hoping tonight the pager and radio stay quite.
I really like both 57 and 58 but if I had to choose I would have to go with 58 (maybe 59 will beat 58), with 58 I think it is a beautiful blue with lovely shading and some sheen that I wish i could have got the angle just right so I could get a picture, it's not a sheen monster by any means but it is there.
The downside I have with 57 is how dry it feels, especially on cheap paper, but it is a lovely red wine color and has some nice shading too. I know a different pen might not feel quite as dry, so I want to try that. And 58 wrote super wet out of my pilot metropolitan stub, and even with how wet it writes, there is no feathering on cheap paper, which 57 didn't feather either.

MI 57 on cheap mead five star. I have had more than a few people say how much they liked 57 and 58 when they see it. I had a couple try writing with 57 on certain copy paper at the department and they agreed it was a pain to write with but on this paper, the hp paper I normally use and optik paper they agreed it was very nice to write with but still not quite as lubricated as other inks they have tried.

I've now written with all 3 inks on my regular Xerox ColorPrint 120gsm paper.
This is MI#58 and it's a lovely cerulean blue. Right at the top of my favourite writing colours list. It's a particularly nice one but it's also a very popular colour. I remember a time when Robert Oster made many inks in this shade. Maybe they still do. It writes like a quality ink and compared with MI#57 writes with good flow and lubrication. It also has nice shading and suggests a bit of red sheen that I might see if I use it on Tomoe River paper.

This is my first writing with MI#59 on my regular Xerox ColorPrint 120gsam paper. As soon as I started writing with it I thought of Lamy Dark Lilac. I am aware that Lamy has recently re-released Dark Lilac as a permanent addition to their range and that it's slightly different to the original.

This ink is a direct clone of the original Lamy Dark Lilac. I've never seen such a close match. People used to say that the closest match to LDL was Diamine Pansy. But after writing with this ink I know that is no longer true. The closest match to LGL is this ink. Whatever it is. Whoever made it, I applaud them for getting such a close clone. I no longer have a bottle of LDL, just a small vial sample and a pack of cartridges. If I want LDL I will buy this ink.

Time flies and I got so caught up with work I'm late to the party.
I used several pens inked with the mystery inks throughout last week, and would like to place my bets before it's too late...and I still need to do some more writing samples on Rhodia with thicker nibs!
So that would be wild guesses as I couldn't find matches in my ink collection. For mystery ink #57, which is probably the one that puzzled me the most, I have no idea, so I'll go with Vinta The Maiden Lakambini 1950, but loosly based on colour it could be some Colorverse like Sea Europa (likely not) or Kyujang Gak maybe? Eventually Organics Studio Mercury red, but that would be pushing
For mystery ink #58, there are so many matches that I couldn't come up with anything. I'll go with Waterman Inspired blue
Now I think mystery ink #59 is made by Diamine, and my first guess was Diamine Pansy, but seeing Chrissy's test above...maybe not. So I would guess one of the numerous Diamine or Diamine made inks, Diamine Lavender, Violet, Imperial purple, Majestic purple, Akkerman Parkpop Purper...so many to choose from!

These three inks fell outside of my usual colour zones and inks I tend to gravitate around, and I enjoyed very much using them and discovering them. Thank you again junglejim for that opportunity!

I have all of these and can confirm that I looked at all of my purple ink swab/chroma tests before I selected the closest ones that i chose to use on my review form. I would be quite surprised if it was one of those you selected but i've been surprised many times before with Diamine inks. LOL My D.Pansy is very old now and purple inks along with red inks are inks that don't keep their colour very well so need to be used young. Therefore nothing would surprise me. I can't wait to see what MI#59 turns out to be.

Chrissy, I called the blue ink turquoise, but you're right in calling it cerulean! It looks close to Iro Kon Peki in your test. I must be some kind of special because I still have cerulean fingers. 🤣

I did not notice a gold sheen for the purple, but now I have to look for it. Thanks.
