Modern Celluloids. Platinum.
Let's try to cheer this up a bit.
I wanted to show two relatively modern celluloid pens by Platinum, both with the calico pattern:

On top, one of the models Platinum released in 1988 to celebrate its 70th anniversary. It implements a piston filler, a 14 K gold nib and an ebonite feed.
On bottom, a #3776 with a music nib from around 2010. Of course, a cartridge-converter pen.
Both interesting pens, but for different reasons.
Cheers,
BT

Re: Modern Celluloids
Looks like the finial is ebonite and faded. Is the grip section ebonite also?

Re: Modern Celluloids
Yes, the ebonite finials are discolored. About the section, I do not really know what material it is made of. I think it is ebonite, but that just a guess.
Cheers,
BT

Re: Modern Celluloids
Those are just lovely. I have the 3776 but the idea of such a lovely piston filler... I shall have to keep my eyes open!

Re: Modern Celluloids
Pen collectors use the term "celluloid" in reference to the classic volatile celluloid nitrate found in vintage pens in '20s to the '50s. This material appears to be modern celluloid acetate, the same we see in Aurora's Auroloid. Rather than machining from a solid rod, these barrels and caps were fabricated by rolling the material into tubes, hence the seams. The pattern is quite nice.
