Default INGENIVM NR II - My newest hand made piston filler

    Hi there,

I just finished and offered to my father in law my newest fountain pen creation.

I´ve named it NR II ( Number 2).

Here are some pictures and details about the pen. The Pelikan 400 is for size comparison, and I must confess I used it as inspiration .

It is a piston filler. I have used and old German piston I had around here to make the piston and used cork as gasket. I will replace it later with orings, but for now I did not had the correct size at home. The pen fills up to 1,5mm of ink, so its quit enough for a considerable period.

It is fitted with a #17 Waterman Hundread years nib, but its just for the pictures, I have later swapped it for a Bock M steel nib, after all is just my father in law pen

The pen is all in black and brown/reddish ripple ebonite. I have fitted some golden trims because I like the way they look on a pen.

You can post the pen and write with the cap on, it´s not heavy, but I made it to be used without the cap. 130 mm ( 5,12") makes it very comfortable to use without the cap.

This time I've decided not to make barrel/cap 4 start threads but to make it a slip-on cap, because my father in law is so used to modern disposable pens that he would probably try to pull the cap every-time he uses the pen, so I´ve made the internal cap and external barrel a slightly tapered shape. I have also reinforced the cap lip by using a large metallic ring, that gives enough strength even if the pen is abused while capping and has cosmetic function as well.

In order to be easily cleaned and have the gasket changed no joint is glued, they are all threaded. The pen can be entirely disassembled and reassembled by the owner.

    Here are the dimensions
    Length with cap on - 142mm (5,6")
    Posted - 180mm (7"
Barrel plus nib ready to write - 130mm (5,12")
    Cap length - 67mm (2,64")
    Cap diameter 14,5mm (0,56")
    Barrel diameter - 13mm (0,51")

I like this model, so I've decided to make another one for myself, but next time the pen will have threads in the cap/barrel and a amber transparent inkwindow to see the ink level.

All, except the clip, nib/feed unit and trims, is hand made in my lathe and no thread tapers / dies are used to make any of the threads. A CNC engraving mill is used to make the engravings.

I would love to get your comments on this pen!! Hope you like it.

A fantastic pen that looks wonderfully crafted. It certainly holds its own next to the Pelikan.
Makes me think of a very classy upmarket version of Noodler's Ebonite Konrads.

My gods, Piscov! I like your pens better that just about any other modern pens I've seen! Congratulations on a continuing parade of artistry.

Thank you Jon, Bogan and cwent2!! I much appreciate your words and am left with a smile of joy in my face. Nice way to start a day!!

I am still starting, I try my best and have lots of fun doing them. Using the lathe can be addictive!

I don't have a scale with grams as unit at home, I will try to find one to update the weight, it is an important info about a pen.

This pen is so inspiring that it should appear in Pen World Magazine.

REALLY nice job! I love the slip cap, and that fluted finial is really nice as well. I wish you the best of luck on your future pens!

Thank you all for your nice comments. I much appreciate it. Later this week I will post another of my designs. The NR I, inspired in the old safeties from the 20íes. and with a custom made silver clip.
