Default Parker 51 mechanical pencil believe its dated 1944 lead size?

Have my late grandfather's parker 51 set and started using the mechanical pencil, I've been using 0.9mm lead and it works, however, it does seem to wiggle slightly and you can nudge it up and down alittle bit, was curious if it actually takes 0.9 or should I be using 1.1mm lead? From what I read early parkers used 1.1 and by the late 40's started taking 0.9 but not really sure.

Every P51 pencil I've had uses .036, which is about .9 in metric. The thicker standard was .046.

You can get both leads from Jon Veley's Legendary Lead (and pencil) Company: https://www.legendaryleadcompany.com/
