    Cool Pilot Red

    Pilot Red
This was the the fifth and last of blind ink testing series. The fourth I had already reviewed (Vert de gris). Thanks @Lithium466 for the sample.

It’s not easy to find. It has some shading but with this eye searing red, it but if you need an eye searing red, it might be for you.

This ink writes vermillion and the colour changes depending on the paper. It’s a difficult colour to describe. It’s very bright, so prepare your sunglasses.

It is very wet, almost too wet. Paradoxically, very fast dry times on Rhodia, and well behaved on copy paper.

It’s not a colour that I could write with, but I enjoyed doing some art work with it.
I doubt it’s a suitable ink for wet pens.

It didn’t stain the clear nib creaper body but cleaning it was a pain and easy for the Kakuno.

Thank you for the advance "sunglasses" warning. Whoa! Very bright! Pinkish hint on white paper, orange on yellow paper. Interesting. Love cool swatch kitty. And the tie on that water-test kitty! Miss Mousey is wondering if kitty didn't go a bit overboard (ha!) with that one... Still love "Aware" - so sweet. And In Flander's Field is so sad! Poor mousey and kitty.

Thanks, Yazeh, for another great review.

Yazeh, Lithium466: I might actually have some Pilot Red. But I never guessed THIS ink would be PR. I guessed a Noodler's and a Lamy.

Love the chroma to pieces. It's like a sunset in one swatch! Also love the artwork!

PR is a skin-stainer (guess how I know this!), and a fun color for summer, when I prefer cheerful brights. Of the comparison inks, I think I have the R & K, Platinum, and JH.

    Thanks, and keep 'em coming.

Glad you enjoyed the drawings. Yes sometimes they're poignant and sad. I heard once a saying, life is few moments of joy surrounded by tragedy, a bit grim, but sometimes unfortunately true

Thanks so much @sailor for your comment and exuberance. I love how you see ink through seasons. It makes me appreciate inks even more

Thank you for this review! I wonder if adding a bit of this red to Pilot Blue would result in a water resistant violet or purple ink.

Probably. I've done a bit of mixing at times. In my earlier years, I mixed a bit of Polar Brown with Diamine Ancient Copper, it worked fine. Obviously mixing Noodler's with Pilot would be a no no, but I'm sure a reasonably waterproof Pilot ink could work well with his one. Or maybe mixing it with one of the Platinum /Sailor waterproof inks.

Yes but the mix was disappointing. I don't exactly remember why, but mixing Pilot blue with Platinum red worked much better.

I was swapping over my Lamy nibs to finish my review of this ink and boy is it a bad hand stainer. I washed my hands three times with a bar of ordinary white soap, then had to wash them twice more with Lava soap and my thumb and forefinger are still stained very pink. I recommend you use rubber gloves if you're going to touch it. I'm considering between bleach or sandpaper next.

I don't know why, but a Brillo pad always gets ink off my hands. I wash with soap first, and whatever is left goes away with the Brillo pad. Seriously had to do that the other day after spilling Cross Red all over my right hand. The Cross bottles are beautiful, but the lids are seriously defective. This bottle was tightly closed. When I picked it up and tilted it up to read, the ink just poured out. No more Cross inks for me, thank you.

Sandpaper and bleach seem a little extreme. Try the steel wool first!!!

Yep. Like most reds, it's a stainer. I use a pumice to remove it. It reminds me of childhood and mercurochrome
