Waterman 56 black chased hard rubber - Question

I bought this pen, very nice. The barrel has the usual American imprint but the nib has Canada written on it. The pen was bought, probably, in UK at the time. The cap has no clip and never has as there is no evidence of it missing.
Could it be that the nib needed replacing and Waterman UK used a Canadian nib? Ideas?

Without knowing the pen's provenance, it is almost impossible to determine the who, when and where of the nib swap in your pen. It is unlikely the combination came out of the Waterman factory in the US.

it came from an estate sale here in UK. this is as much as I know. But would the UK branch of Waterman install Canadian gold nibs though?

If they had one maybe from a previous nib swap then yes they would be likely to use it. Why not?

It is entirely possible that an American pen could have arrived in England via Canada and the replacement was done there.

Anything is possible with a vintage pen. Back in "the day" pen shops didn't worry about whether it was "correct" or had "the original" parts when they repaired a pen. The interest of both the shop and customer were to get the pen working and back in the customers hands. Have an identical nib made in Canada instead of USA? Does it fit? Use it. On to the next pen.
