    Mystery Inks C.jpeg

Colorverse Mars Attacks - dipped - vintage ca. '25 MHR Conway Stewart B stub nib.
Diamine Syrah - '42 Sheaffer Triumph Vac-Fill desk pen F nib.
Diamine Passion Red - dipped - early '40s Parker 51 BB nib The ink just gushed from the dipped nib.
Diamine Red Dragon (my "go-to" red) - Pelikan 200 demonstrator fitted with M400 14c B ground to cursive italic.

I like both MI Nos. 60 and 61 because they are dark (or saturated?) enough for me. I'm not a fan of light "washed out" inks. Note that the Pelicans I'm using apply a good amount of ink on the paper with each stroke, i.e., "wet."

    MI No. 62 to come....

I'll have you know that Mystery Inks live on, until the vials are empty. That can take...who knows how long?!

I concur with Chrissy, 60 is dryer than 61, but nice writer. It reminds me of Fritz Schimpf sundowner. 62 is a stainer and am suspecting a sheener, and the colour is of course one of Jim's trademark favourites

    61

I don't drink, but with this chroma, I'm tempted

    Chroma- 61.jpeg
I used a Pilot Kakuon Ef, Lamy Safari (Ef,F,M,B, Stub), and a vintage Waterman V2 flex nib.
This is a gorgeous, saturated, shading monster. The shading happens only with dryer pens. As you can see above with Fred's sample writing (wet pens) there's no shading. Longer dry times on Rhodia, so not for lefty over writers.

Best used on a white paper, Rhodia or preferably Tomoe River. Not so nice on Midori. I loved it up to B nibs. With a Lamy Stub, it was anemic, with the Waterman V2 flex, it was too saturated and no shading.
    Tr68gr 61.jpeg

Despite what the scan shows, the bleed through happened, because of a saturated feed. Afterwards, even with the flex nib, the ghosting was minimal

I had a lot of fun creating this little drawing on Talens mixed media notebook, with mystery inks 60 (fox), 61 (grapes) and 62 (background)
The only ink not belonging to the mystery group is my trusty Lexington Gray.

This is a lovely shading, sheening teal/turquoise ink with excellent lubrication.
If you want sheen use Japanese Paper (Midori or Tomoe River 68gr, Iroful), wet pens and ideally M/ B nibs.
If you want shading go for all the above +Rhodia and a drier pen.
sheen is only faintly visible with the flex nibs.

    Pens used: Lamy Safari Reverse Ef/ Ef/F/M/B/Stub, Noodler's Nib Creaper ) semi-flex

Don't judge an ink by it's chroma:
    Chroma- 62.jpeg
Rhodia - NOte long dry time on Rhodia means very long time on Japanese Paper.
    Rhodia 62.jpg

    Tr68gr-62-62.jpg
    Now check the sheen:
Papers are Midori /Tomoe River 68 gr /Iroful

    Nibs are B/Stub/ Semi-flex

Terrible attempt at evaluating #60 and #61:

I couldn't manage to have #60 look realistic on my screens... Increasing the exposure to have the paper whiter and closer to reality just made the ink turn bright red/orange. #60 was quite dry and unlubricated and frankly unpleasant with my favoured F and EF nibs.

#61 is more pleasant and can provide for a wider tone variation experience!

#62 looks like Robert Oster Fire & Ice

Great job @Lithium. I agree with your assessment. Mystery 60/ 62 have no water resistance. 61 is surprisingly good.

I haven't tried MI #62 yet, just inked the test Lamy pen and wrote a few lines here and there Still undecided on the pen to use for this one.

(also the blue on the others images isn't MI#62 but a random blue I had there, PR Lake Placid blue)

I started off by thinking MI#62 was a red sheening blue but I've now got it as a green leaning blue and my money is currently on J.Herbin Emerald of Chivor although I've also compared it with P.I.Syo-ro. I have both MI# 61 and 62 inks ready to upload but need the iMac that OH is currently using.

Interesting. My sample of Emeraude de Chivor is from memory much greener (plus there would be some shimmer?), I'll have to compare that. Unless it's the new Turquoise de Perse, but it would be shimmery too

When I started writing with it I knew it wasn't blue but a blue leaning teal that looks and writes very much like J.Herbin Emerald de Chivor. An ink that I've used very much without grabbing any shimmer particles while filling my pens. However there are several Robert Oster inks that are a similar teal shade to this. It could easily be one of those. It might also be a bit more blue than Emerald of Chivor but not very much.

Here are my initial thoughts on MI#61 and 62:

    MI 61 1.jpeg

I've added another similar ink for Mi#62. Sailor Jentle Yama-dori. However, this ink might be Robert Oster Aqua. An ink I don't have.

Diamine Steel Blue, Diamine Kensington Blue, Randall Blue Black and Montblanc old-style iron gall blue-black aren't even close. I didn't even try against my bog-standard blue inks.

I have nothing that compares to #60
    Comparison-60.jpg
#61 could be Diamine Burgundy Rose
    Comparison-61.jpg
62 is somewhere between a sheening Seiboku and Noodler's Turquoise.
I checked m E de Chivor and it was way off. Plus JJ never puts shimmering inks

So this must mean it's now time for the next Mystery Inks series. Mystery Inks is now open to FPG veterans, n00bs, newbies, and lurkers. You volunteer, I send free ink, you write with it and post your thoughts and observations. Guessing is welcome, but not required. There is nothing to "win" aside from perhaps personal satisfaction that you recognized it. No guess is confirmed until the mystery ink is finally revealed. The point of the Mystery Ink threads is an unbiased review. Fear not about the quality of your handwriting or sketching abilities. We don't care. We are all appreciative of those with the gift of artistic ability, but how well you draw or write doesn't impact your ability to test an ink and provide your opinion on it.

I will act as the Procurer, Packer, and Post Office Porter. This ink flight will consist of 1 packet containing 3 inks, each vial filled with 3mls of Mystery Ink labeled MI-60, MI-61, and MI-62. There will be 9 packets available and only 2 of the packets will be for overseas participants due to the high cost of postage ( US$18.50 ). If you are international, please let me know. If there are more sign-ups for overseas participants than slots, then I will run a Random Number Generator to pick. As per past tradition, if you are brand new to Mystery Ink you will have a Priority Spot!

The inks in this ink flight are dye based, not pigmented, no shimmer and not iron gall. I don’t use any of the Noodler’s Bay State inks, so there won’t be any in the ink flights I send out.

Post below if you would like to volunteer to receive a free ink flight. I'll leave this open until 12 Noon PDT Tuesday August 20th.

    All the Best.
Due to a skirmish with window installation I missed this completely. Now I shall go through the entire thread.
My other pen is a Montblanc.
