    Default World Calligraphy Day

Today is World Calligraphy Day. Do we have any calligraphy writers, lettering artists or creatives who can show us all how to write this beautiful and artistic writing?

    Happy World Calligraphy Day.

Below is a link to a video clip on nibs.com's site showing what's possible with John Mottishaw's Spencerian customization. It was originally posted over 10 years ago, and I still find it inspiring. The actual writing demo starts at around the 40 second mark:

Would someone who writes in chicken scratch on World Calligraphy Day be the equivalent of being Jewish on Christmas?

M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
    A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
    A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
    A: Yes it is!
    M: No it isn't!

@Robert I love how it looks after it's written but it was so scratchy it wouldn't ever be a pen and nib combo for me.

I liken the sound to fingernails scratching a blackboard. I suspect the video was very closely miked and that the actual noise level would be somewhat less. I suppose one could always use ear plugs whilst using such a nib.

No, 90% of the world population and 99.9% of its MDs can't all be Jewish. ~Woody Allen[¿]

I used to wonder if fountain pens were invented because some dip pens were scratchy and noisy like that. I would love to be able to write like that but not at the cost of my hearing that noise.

The loudest writing instrument I heard is the reed. It really stutters
In my experience the dip pen nib doesn't make much of a noise. I did a lot of "practicing" at one stage and it a very mediative experience.
The sound is video is more like a scan, when it exaggerates shading or picks up bleed through on the other side of a page. I often have to double check, as a lot of inks, I relieve don't shade, but if you can them they shade a lot

@Robalone I love your beautiful calligraphy writing and every time I see it I always find myself looking through it to see if I can find at least one representative of every capital and small letter. Of course that never happens in normal writing so I end up with a partial reference.

Do you have a reference that you keep so that you know what every letter looks like when you write it in either capitals or small letters? If so I would love to see it.

Chrissy. If you pop across to Mauricio's site … vintage pens.net…there’s heaps of examples of really sexy lettering done with flex nibs.
Mauricio says that he didn’t have nice handwriting, and decided to learn the English Roundhand style …and just wrote and wrote and wrote until he could.

Also, I have lots of books of fonts and lettering which I copy …sort of…

I also make stuff up depending on how silly lm feeling 🤣😎
