Default Are there any inks you dearly long for?

Many of us have inks (sealed or barely used) which we wouldn't miss if we got rid of. I wonder if any other members long for some no longer available (without paying a fortune) inks which others would gladly send (for some nominal fee) to another member.
So, are you sorely missing any inks? (I'm not, but I'd imagine some others might)

An interesting question. There are inks I used to try to find but gave up looking for long ago now. Nowadays, in the world of so many ink manufacturers, I can always find something close if I want to. I can barely remember those that I used to seek. One that I never found was SanKo Do Tsurumai Blue but think it would now be available somewhere in the Sailor Ink Studio range if I cared to look.

By coincidence, a couple of weeks ago we bought a set of drawers called Alex from Ikea and I transferred almost all of my inks into its six fairly narrow but wide drawers. During that time I unearthed unused, duplicate brand new bottles of more than one Diamine manufactured ink that I should part with. All but one are single store exclusives. Definitely difficult to find in the UK and maybe even in the US. Therefore, I will be looking to see if any members have any of those, or even any other inks that I have available, on their wanted lists.

As I pass my free time reviewing inks, I'm sort of immune to most inks and have discovered that if one ink is discontinued another one will replace it. That being said, I'll be very sorry if Noodler's ink disappears, but then again, the only constant in life is impermanence.
Ironically, I rarely write anymore, and mostly use inks for drawings, washes etc. And depending what sample, I'm using, I let the inks, to inspire the drawings.

It's strange that I like the variety of inks and I love using them in my sketches.
But at the same time, I can't be bothered to worry about some inks disappearing forever, nor do I "miss" any particular ones.

I assume there are enough inks out there that I'd always be able to find the hues and colors that I like.
And I'm not "married" to any brands, in fact, just like with vintage pens, the more brands I explore, the more fun it seems to be.

I would give up every ink I own or have ever tried and just use Parker Penman Sapphire. I have tried Scribe Indigo which is reportedly made by the original ink's creator, but it didn't do it for me. It got me thinking that what I like about the original is that is is even more saturated due to evaporation and I might not have liked it as much when it was first sold.

Second choice is devils serum (Baystate Blue) except for it's staining properties. That only gets used in inexpensive pens that I'm willing to sacrifice to satan (Satan/Nathan...hmmm).

That's all you get for two cents.

    Sort've parallels:...
One night in my art class (watercolors) our instructor placed various fruits & veggies on our desks & told us to paint a picture of it, but we couldn't use the actual hue of the subject. The object was, paint it so a viewer would know what it was, regardless of its color. The point WE were supposed to get out of it was, you don't need every tint & shade of every hue that exists. Gotta say, it turned out to be the best painting I ever made of an apple, using only Ultramarine Blue, & I still have it.

There's actually another ink I left off my list above, which I just ain't telling! It's sort've obscure, & possibly will become available again....and I figure the less people are snoopin' around for it, the better my odds of gettin' some more!
(It wouldnt be the 1st time I've praised something & saw it disappear almost overnight!)

Like some others here, I'm in that state where I've seen so many inks that I'm sure I can always find ones that I enjoy, even of some that I have enjoyed are no longer available. That said, I do seem to have formed two obsessions:

    1. Sheaffer Skrip Green - it's not green. It's a strange and unique color that I shouldn't like, and yet I do. I can only find it in cartridges on Amazon - at more than $2 per cartridge. Apparently I don't want it *that* bad. There's still some slight hope this ink will return, if the new owner makes the brand a success....

    2. Gutenberg Urkundentinte G10 - this isn't actually unobtainium. You can get it in Germany, but it costs an arm and a leg to ship it over here. Also, as I understand it, I like the "it's gone bad" version (it's an iron gall). On the website, the ink is described as black. The version I reviewed looked like dirty dishwater. It was too pale to be practical and yet for inexplicable reasons, I really liked it. I'm considering contacting Kiwi Inks to see if I can send them my swatch and review page (with a SASE so I can get them back) and see if they can make me a new ink that looks like it.

Once upon a time, I would have said MB Jonathan Swift Seaweed Green (it was my first murky green), but I'm no longer interested in it - it's not nearly the right sort of murky. I'll take Robert Oster Bronze, thanks.

So, to those who are pining for some by-gone ink, the solution is simple: start doing ink reviews! By the time you reach ink #300, you're not likely to be overly enamored with any ink.

I have plenty of Parker Penman Sapphire in bottles and cartridges because it's also an ink I regularly use, but I actually like the Scribe Indigo almost as much. No Indigo is not as saturated but it's better behaved in pens than it's grandfather. Yes it is made by the guy who originally designed and made Parker Penman inks - Dr. Leighton Davies-Smith - specially to to be compatible with the Parker Duofold (if I remember rightly). His was one of the most interesting talks I ever had the pleasure to sit and listen to on one of the Zoom meetings of Space City Pen Club.

I would be more than happy for you to take my bottle of Baystate Blue off of my hands. Save me from worrying about what to do with it. LOL I daren't even flush it down a sink..... In fact it hasn't even made it into my Alex drawers just in case it might leak!!

I have some, too. I haven't a clue to how it's holding up, though.

Like a number of my other friends here, the combination of (already) having too many inks, combined with the explosion of inks in the last decade (and matching virtually anything that came before), I don't worry myself about constantly looking for this or that. Would I purchase another bottle of either Sheaffer Persian Rose or Peacock Blue? Absolutely. But unless they just happen to show up, I'll keep using the last of those two inks for important correspondence and be happy that they were in my pens for part of my lifetime.

One 'bandage', if not a cure...the ready proliferation of 'looks-like' recipes so common across our corner of the web. I've wished at times there was a comprehensive thread/web-page/? with a compilation of these concoctions.
    Inherent problems:
    1. Consensus - 'Eye of the Beholder' being so individualistic as they are.
    2. Standards of measure.
    3. More ink(s) having to be bought to formulate with.
    4. The additional storage space the above would require.

The Quest being a part of the fun our hobby is, sometimes best to let sleeping dogs lie, I reckon.

Not the Diamine, but I've used BSAR since... 2012, maybe? I think it is one of only two Noodler's inks I will still occasionally use. Though it is nothing like PR, believe me. I'll ask at pen club on Saturday if anyone in the house has the Diamine ink to sample, thanks.

I bought myself a bottle of Sheaffer Skrip Peacock Blue but haven't used it so should check it out as those caps were not known to be as airtight as modern manufactured ones.

I was gifted a bottle of Persian Rose but think it's quite an unstable ink colour as I've never seen two swabs of it that look the same. You may remember the source of my bottle. I also bought some packs of Sheaffer Skrip rose cartridges but don't know if they should look like bottled Persian Rose. Mine don't. PR can change to what I would call a "dirty pink" in the bottle and I think it might be a disappointment to anyone who has used it previously as you are unlikely to get the same shade twice. I would be very interested to learn what colour Sheaffer originally issued it as but that would mean a journey back in time.
