Am I the only person who is entertained by the conversation that the bots are having? Yes, spam is annoying, but there are parts of it that are entertaining as well.

I find it ironic that spam replies to spam.
So many people interested in spam postings.
Oh well, I guess life can be pretty boring for some...
Then you have some legitimate posters who abuse the system as well...
Multiple (more than 5 posts) at the same time which moves other legitimate sellers off the front page.
Even if you are legitimate, abusing the system will eventually destroy it, I suspect.
JMHO.
IMO, this is the most significant reason why we need the presence of a moderator. In spite of being told again and again to limit their sales posts to five at a time, there are a small handful of posters here in the For Sale sub-forum who see fit to ignore this request and abuse the privilege of utilizing the space. Add to this, many of their multiple posts are nothing more than repeated bumps of the same items, some for sale for more than a year! I'll take the spam over this nonsense any day; at least the spam is not the same old, sale old coming from the same old, same old!
I was thinking bumping all the SOLD pens at least swept the spam off the first page (and advertising for the future)
AFAIK, Internet 'SPAM' is defined as unwanted unsolicited messaging -- am I correct? In the absence of site maintenance & moderation, who's to say we can't start with consensual standards of our own?
I would propose that when these no-storefront merchandisers choose to ignore accepted protocols (eg excessive numbers of ads), any valid member is free to immediately respond with warning posts saying, in effect, "This person is a Spammer - please DO NOT buy any goods from their ads." Perhaps a rapid response, backed by multiple similar responses can make them start to realize the ensuing negativity will eventually cost them business, not to mention loss of reputation.
Same might be said, and done, for those who repeatedly re-advertise items nobody here obviously wants, with a certain number [20 pages] of 'Bumps'? For crissakes, after a point, take it somewhere else, ya know? Would a similar 'bump limit' be desirable, or feasible?

Rather than trying to gather a mob with torches and pitch forks, why don’t you step out on your own and see if you have any followers?

But one can toast lots of marshmallows and hot dogs or sausages with pitchforks and torches!
Burgers can be tough unless the tines are close together!
Speaking for myself, I agree with ~JJ 100%.
Seriously, the most recent example from one of the "frequent flyers" who abuse the privilege of posting their items for free is a sales post which he has repeatedly bumped since the Fall of 2022. By any criteria, that is SPAM. And, when it comes in waves of the same old, same old tired sales posts which exceed the limit of five at a time, IMO it is over the line and deserves to be called out.
So, ~JJ, I'm in.....I'll follow your lead.
But apparently not yesterday or today.
There is a sales forum?
