A very cool and interestingly customized pen IMHO, and for not a whole lot of expense either, I would surmise... ~But why a "parallel pen cartridge"? -What is it, and what's it used for?
The parallel pen cartridge just fits into the top of the section avoiding leakage problems (the back of the nib block is also hollowed out). The capacity being higher in ml and the inner diameter being wider, the ink flow is enriched, allowing substantial fills, the fineness being ensured, as with all flexible nibs, by the finesse of this one. Of course it must be filled with the syringe, the dropper, but I prefer the perfume pipette, smaller and which fits in all converters.

Is it safe to say that Sheaffer Sovereign II sections fit into Esterbrook J barrels and Esterbrook J sections fit into Sheaffer Sovereign II barrels? And if so, can we expect caps to fit properly when such swaps are made?

I'm enjoying seeing the variety here. And I like that EsterSheaffer.

Somehow, I have more fountain pens inked at the moment than is really reasonable for my purposes, seven, not counting some Pilot Varsities. But I expect I'll write it down to four or three in due course.

Here are three that I used today. The Montblanc Noblesse has De Atramentis Document Cyan. The Parker 45 had Noodler's Kiowa Pecan, but when the converter was running dry, instead of refilling it, I put in a Parker Blue-Black Quink cartridge. The interaction of the inks doesn't seem to be causing any harm.

And that's a Platinum Carbon desk pen leaning over. Cheap pen, but it's always inked, as I keep it on one desk for jotting quick notes. It has the little adapter that lets it use short standard cartridges instead of the Platinum ones, and I've been running through a stash of Monteverde cartridges in different colors. Not sure why I acquired them, but may as well use them in something.

Based on this one sample, yes. Sheaffer made pens in huge volume and there are variances in barrel dimensions even within the same model, so I don't think it's guaranteed.

The cap has enough clearance for the nibs.

There will be no flushing. When it fails, it gets replaced. I've come to terms with sacrificing the pelikano for the cursed blue.

I'm still using the same pens today that I was using on the 15th (above), but I neglected to include the Sheaffer Triumph Vac-Fill F desk pen & Omas Sepia that's always filled and ready to go.

I'm aware of Bay State Blue's staining ability, but not of it causing pens to fail because they can't be flushed properly. I flush my dedicated Bay State Blue pen regularly and don't expect to ever have a failure due to the ink. Should I expect failure?

This is important to me because while my dedicated pen is a Platinum Preppy, I plan to dedicate a significantly more expensive Platinum to Bay State Blue.

    That's very unfortunate to hear.

Some of BSB's reputation for destruction is simply "urban legend" IMO. ~Hey, they don't always damage the pens they're in. ~But still, sometimes they have... A sensible warning I read in a review of BSB said it probably wouldn't harm your pen, but it might still be ill advised to use it in a valuable and/or cherished pen as it's very acidic...

I've never had a problem using BSB (aside from it significantly fading from uv exposure)

There are a lot of great blue inks but there's nothing that compares to (unfaded) BSB.

To keep the ball rolling here, I've chosen a ~100-years-old Conklin 50 F flex crescent-filler and I'm about to fill it with Aurora black, a favorite ink for flex nibs. This pen hasn't seen ink in several years, but the sac is perfectly supple and coated with talc. I suspect I've never inked it since I installed the sac. Is there a pen any easier to re-sac than a crescent-filler?
