Default Pens that you're using today.

I know there was a thread on this some time ago, but I can't find it, so why not start a new one?

What pens are you using today? I'm using this Morrison Patriot with Diamine Asa Blue ink, and a Parker Jotter, the fountain pen version, not their famous ballpoint. Although I do have a little collection of those ballpoints too.

Using the Morrison just at home, although I plan to show it to some friends later. The Parker is a not bad cheap pen which I hadn't used in years. I've been taking out a few pens like that and inking them up just for variety. I found a Parker black Quink cartridge, and put it in this one.

Right now... I've been writing Christmas postcards and greeting cards, while at the same time trying to catch up with my correspondence by tucking cards in with my letters (or vice versa).

The green Pelikan M400 and the red Pelikan M250, both B cursive italic, are filled with Diamine Magical Forest and Red Lustre shimmer inks for Christmas cards. The rest are being used to write accompanying notes and letters. L to R: Sheaffer Balance O/S EF flex & MB Toffee, Mabie Todd Swan SF/250 F & Waterman black, the two Pelikans, Pilot 823 F/M & Pilot blue, Sheaffer Legacy Victorian M & Diamine Sargasso Sea, and early resin MB 149 EF & old 50ml MB black.

I'll be using more ink than usual the rest of this day.

After a couple of erands this morning I'll be doing like Fred, probably into the evening. We just had the first local pen club meeting since I took a 2-week trip to Japan, so I have 10 pens inked up with the inks I brought back from that fine place. However, I'll also be using a pen that showed up on Friday, a Leonardo done as a LE for Pen Boutique. I don't normally track stuff like this but saw a post and it was so in my wheelhouse I jumped and got in before they sold out. 77 pieces done from Mazzucchelli cellulose acetate.

Too many pens inked as usual

    Pilot F3A (nice semi-flex nib)
    Lamy Safari
Unknown vintage Sailor, very smooth nib
    Pilot Kakuno
Japanese GE (it uses Platinum Cartridge)

    To name a few

@Kaputnik, good idea for a thread that should be ongoing naturally

I'm in the middle of uncluttering the space where I do most of my restoration. And I found this forgotten (by me) Sheaffer Sovereign II in Carmine whose conical nib was literally lopped off before it reached me. It's a white dot version and the condition of the barrel and cap are excellent, what a pity if it's just doing nothing in my project box.

So I took the section out and was rummaging through my spare sections to find one that fits. Enter this Esterbrook J section that fits perfectly! So now I have a Sheaffer that I can put any Esterbrook nib unit on it. Say the 8868 Medium Firm

Or, how about a Sheaffer nib that I put into an Esterbrook nib collar...
Talk about a 360 degrees turn

Apologize if this is not today as in TODAY, but recent enough.

But here's some of the ever eager for duty backups...Current use pens.jpg

A global bunch; ~an Indian Kenrite, a Chinese Hongdian and two Asvines, and two German Pelikans. As you can see here pistons are my pens of choice (currently Asvines are my favorites), but I also have an as yet unboxed Asvine P126 vacuum filler to try out...
So many pens yet to try, so little time!

What is that large vacuum filler pen on the right? I thought at first it might be a Pilot 823 but it's pocket clip is much too different to be an 823...

That's a Visconti Homo Sapiens London Fog, EF. (They were a limited edition pen.)

(Just in case it's wanted: At the top is a TWSBI Eco 1.1 stub; then from left to right: Pilot Prera w/ EF nib (my review pen), Waterman Carčne F, Cross Metropolis F, and the Visconti.)

If there were novices around, reading this thread, your pen selection is very illustrative of an egalitarian, open-minded approach to selecting and using them: there are pens of very modest cost next to pens that are higher-priced, but all used and enjoyed equally (my assumption on the last bit).

And I see two there that I also like a lot and frequently use; -an Eco stub, and the neat little Prera.

A very cool and interestingly customized pen IMHO, and for not a whole lot of expense either, I would surmise... ~But why a "parallel pen cartridge"? -What is it, and what's it used for?

Some are enjoyed more than others, but yes, I like them all. I try to keep variety in my collections (pens, inks, paper) rather than narrowing down to "the best" - IMO, that gets boring fast.

While I suppose this is just an inherent trait in me, it was brought out or emphasized by a user named geoduc on FPN who generously gifted me 15 or so ink samples when I first go into the hobby. There were colors like Montblanc Jonathan Swift Seaweed Green and Akkerman Oranje Boven which I would never in a million years have chosen for myself, and yet I instantly loved both as soon as they started coming out of a pen. Which taught me that you don't know what you like until after you've tried it, so try it! (You know, all the rational caveats applied: safety, legality, reason, blah blah.)

Pilot make a type of calligraphy pen called the Pilot Parallel (JetPens link). They also make a special ink for these pens. The ink tends to be very concentrated (lots of dye, little water). The inks can be mixed by touching the nibs of two Parallel pens to produce a graduated color effect:

ETA: You can use these in other fountain pens. They behave better when diluted. I suppose they must do well in flex nibs...
