    Default ebay seller not recommended

    The seller is "bullsnbears".

I didn't pay even close to the asking price of this pen. Otherwise, everything went wrong, see below.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/146214741669

Me: I received the pen today. The nib's collar (the green plastic piece that holds the actual metal nib and the black plastic feed together) is cracked on both the left and right sides. Also, the pen's barrel is cracked toward its very end. That crack looks like a scratch at first, but when just a little pressure is applied to the bottom of the pen, the crack opens up, revealing that it isn't just a scratch.

Seller: No way that’s my pen. Check out my pictures of nib under microscope. No way that’s is the nib from my pen

Me: That is with 100% certainty the nib of your pen.

Seller: The barrel in your photo is green

Me: Using a microscope to enlarge your photos will not add detail to the photos. It is the nib of the pen you sold me.

Seller: Go head and dispute then the holder in your pic is green. The nib is dull. Not even close. Not my pen

Seller: Then dispute it. Not even close. But I get it. Easy to see what I sent you and what you’re trying to do.

Me: The pen is sort of a dark blue. I will go ahead and dispute as you suggested.

None of the seller's other items for sale are pens, by the way.

    Update:

I did "dispute" as the seller suggested. In addition to reporting the pen's defects, I noted his ill behavior. He has already approved my return.

I'll report his behavior to ebay as a separate issue.

Now I have to watch out in case he shows up at my door with a chainsaw or a sack of ricin. But it's about 7PM in his time zone; it's New Year's Eve and maybe he's just drunk.

I would venture to say that the seller does not understand that you have unscrewed and removed the nib unit from the pen to check it out so he doesn't "get" the fact that it has a green collar and looks nothing like the way his pen looked with the nib unit inside the section.

Hopefully he will recognise the pen and nib as his when he gets it back although he won't be able to see the cracks when the nib unit is back inside the section and will likely wonder where you got the green part from.

That 'green' he's attempting to claim is the pen's body appears to me [in the photos] to be tape [teflon?] or perhaps heatshrink tubing someone's applied to attempt stopping or covering the crack. Only teflon tape I've ever seen is white, so not sure, but....??

Later 9000 series nibs had a green nib housing VS black of earlier and lower end nibs. The photos show a bare nib unit - nib, feed and housing - cracked.

These are Niner's photos. He's informing the seller that the green nib collar (or housing as Ron calls it) is cracked and the seller thinks it's a different pen body because his was a blue pen not green.

I think the portion of the body/barrel you're referring to is what I'll call the pen's metal end cap (my made up term).

In the topmost of the 2 nib profile shots, the one with the nib pointing to viewer's left:
I perceive at the left edge of the green, a small 'tag'* where the first applied end of the ?tape? isn't quite covered evenly by the following wraps. Maybe it's just an illusion, maybe just me....but it's something that caught my eye.

There's no tape at all. If you're familiar with Esterbrook "Renew Point" nibs (or more precisely, nib units), you'll recall that they're threaded. The nibs can be easily removed by the user and swapped for other Esterbrook nibs - harder, more flexible, stubs, etc., just by screwing in the replacement nib. So I think you might just be noticing the threads.

Ah so. I must have missed the part where OP said it was an Esterbrook.
