Anybody hear of Rad and Hungry?

It is a grab bag sort of service catering to world wide stationery products that normally would not be available to people in the US or other countries depending on where the R&H people are traveling to hunt for stationery. It is something like Lost Crates but you know what you are getting. That is, if you don't go for the "Rad Bag". Then you try your luck. It costs less than half of what Lost Crates does and you do not have to subscribe. I tried it but with the "Rad Bag" which is $12 USD plus shipping. It took a while to arrive. Ordered on February 23rd and it arrived on the 9th of March. No real fountain pen related stuff included. Here is what I received:

For $12 it is not too bad. Out of everything, I like the sketch book, pencil holder, and devider tabs the best. I will probably give the rest to my daughter. It may be a little steep for the what you are getting but you are also funding the sourcing trip. If anything, it may be a good way to try notebooks I might not otherwise get to try. I am eying the Spain kit for the notebook included.

I have heard of Rad and Hungry. I like their stuff. Thanks for sharing your stuff with us. How is the sketchbook working out?

I just used the sketch book last night. Just doodling with my daughters. The paper is a heavy and textured cardstock. I could not find an indication of what the paper weight is but it could easily pass for business card stock. I only used pencil but I might have to do a fountain pen test. It looks like it would feather all over the place though.

Well, tested it last night and there is no feathering at all. It absorbs the ink just fast enough to dry the ink but not feather it all over the place. Very nice stock! You can sort of see the texture it has.

Here are the labels on the sketch book packaging. Maybe that could help source it because I have no idea where to get more. I might have to contact the Rad & Hungry people.

I could find out that the SketchBook can be bought in Japan at Daiso (ダイソー). It's a famous chain of 100Yen shops, so the paper is not expensive and should be readily available (in Japan). Found the info on a page where a Japanese tried to use it to create filters for cigarettes...*facepalm*

LOL. Okay, I am familiar with Daiso as that is where a friend would get me some minidisc blanks. I'll have to see if he can get me some of these.

Daiso and other 100 Yen shops also have some smaller notebooks that resemble the classic black DinA6 Moleskines. The paper is not great for fountain pens, but that they have in common with real Moleskines. They also use a black elastic band to keep them closed. Your friend should get you one of those too, if Daiso still has them.
