My first attempt at the red pen wrap was not too successful however version 2 is a lot better the pen slots are made from red suede I find sewing the soft suede very difficult so it will take some time

The outer wrap will be made from two pieces of soft kip leather why two pieces well you will have to wait and see.
Making a wrap work is not as easy as it looks

For some time now I have been trying to replicate the colour effect of some Japanese pens where one colour shows through another.
This is my latest attempt it is a yellow base coat with a diluted red dye on top
IMG_1212 by my0771, on Flickr
As you can see I used yellow thread and yellow nappa leather inside

Thanks for looking

Another fabulous creation in the making. I would love to get one of these. One day perhaps!

I like the disc idea too. It makes the case extra different.

I enjoy embossing so I often look for opportunities so when I was asked to make a special pen wrap I saw such an opportunity.
It is a time consuming process I printed two copies of the initials and glued one to a piece of leather which I then cut out.
I then glued these letters on to the second set which left me with a sheet of paper with the leather initials on top. I do this because I have had problems in the past with spacing the letters when doing the next steps.
Time for some pictures the start of the embossing process wet coloured leather is laid over the sheet with the initials on it then pressed into place.

As I progressed I added some glue to the letters lifting half of the top piece each time once I was happy with the result I left it to dry

I am finding the wooden toggle/ pen rest very handy for preventing my clipless pen from rolling off the desk. The disc with the initials makes the case extra-special. A suggestion for the future: for those who don't want a pen rest, maybe make the initial disc the toggle?

I love my plain leather toggle, personally.

Thank you both for the feedback it is very useful of course the great thing about custom cases is you can choose what you want although in this case I added everything as the recipient does not know about it yet although my co conspirators and I think he may have guessed. I need a delivery address so he is about to find out

I left the wrap cover to dry overnight

Now we have two pieces the outer leather cover and the inner suede section
IMG_1242 by my0771, on Flickr
I am currently working out exactly how the two pieces will fit together it would be very simple to stitch the two sections together and it would look ok

IMG_1243 by my0771, on Flickr
I want something that is a little more than ok so I am thinking of adding some side pieces
IMG_1249 by my0771, on Flickr
This is what the wrap looks like when it is rolled

The next step is to sort out the fastener

So cool michael!!!!
MY63 (August 30th, 2015)
The embossing looks fabulous Michael. I wonder if it is possible to emboss initials on to the leather used in your two-piece cases... for example on to the side of the cap section.
I have to be honest Monz I am as with most of my leather working feeling my way and learning as I go.
I still class embossing as a dark art I don't always know if it is going to work or not especially with small designs.
To emboss the lid of a pen case it would be necessary to make a lid and then wrap that in a thinner leather which would be embossed adding another layer of leather might make it look huge.
But I am sure there are ways around that problem
Monz (August 31st, 2015)
I decided to add the leather ends to each side of the suede pen pockets as you can see in the picture. I have also shaped the flap this is to prevent it from moving when rolled.

Here is one of the two options for a closure method the thong is the wrong colour though the other option is a thin flat strap but it would work in the same way

It appears that I have been the hapless victim of some behind the scenes shenanigans, and that the case in the picture below is soon to be winging its way over various oceans toward my door. I must confess, despite this:
I was witless enough not to have noticed that it has my initial on the tag.Thank you both for the feedback it is very useful of course the great thing about custom cases is you can choose what you want although in this case I added everything as the recipient does not know about it yet although my co conspirators and I think he may have guessed. The conspirators played me well, and for my part I didn't even need to act. I believe there may still be an opening somewhere for a village idiot?
My thanks to Michael and his co-conspirator (name withheld to protect the guilty - they may wish to 'out' themselves)
