    Default Late 19th century inkwell

My newest inkwell is this late 19th century fish inkwell carved out of a shell. It came without an insert so I'm using a PVC plumbing part from the hardware store. I may need to go buy an o-ring to make the insert more stable. The dip pen is also late 19th century and retractable.

That's a really nice inkwell. May I ask where it was made and from what source you acquired it?

There's some hard-to-read writing on the lid that might say "Sandwich Islands" -- but I'm really not sure. I acquired it on Ebay.

Wow - - that would mean it came from Hawaii. Thanks again!

Very cool inkwell, Jbb. Is the lid made of a mother-of-pearl-like material?
And what is the rest of the inkwell made of?

    Merry Christmas.

I think it's carved out of a conch (?) shell.

Now that you mentioned it, I can see the tip of the shell. Nice!
