Watched on DVD 'Man of Steel'. Better than I expected. Should've made some popcorn.

The Reflecting Skin (1990). I was in from the opening scene. A young Viggo Mortensen whose picture you see early on but dosen't make his entrance until almost half way / 40+ minutes into the movie. But he's not the main character, in a movie of characters, living and mumified. Listed as a British horror film, it dosen't neatly fit there either. Throughly enjoyed watching this.

choose your weapon: gasoline pump. whaling harpoon. slingshot. black cadillac. radiation poisoning. wasp. rabid dog. snapping turtle.

Keep in mind that Philip Ridley screened the film at the school of the main young actors. The children were laughing hysterically during most of the film at which point Ridley stated that they actually 'got it'.

"Heartless" by Ridley is also interesting.

I think you recommended The Reflecting Skin to me. Ridley didn't make many movies, I'll check out Hearless too.

If you like those you should see "Only God Forgives" by Nicolas Refn. Amazing film. Also one of the most beautifully shot films I've seen in a while.

Battle for Los Angeles. Comic book action flick, The Marines vs The Metaloid Aliens. Sort of a Sci-Fi Blackhawk Down. My husband chose this, of course.

Framed. A PBS Masterpiece flick. The contents of the National Gallery are transferred to a small town in Wales for safekeeping...quite charming.

    Leviathan (2013).

the scene when the camera was hovering just above the water and caught the flying / jumping sting rays freaked me out.

Yep. And we know that it's no longer a children's story.

Just watched "The Place Beyond the Pines" on DVD. Interesting...

We saw The Butler last night. It was OK but not outstanding, and we both found much of the content quite unsettling. I know that that sort of thing went on, but I still really don't like seeing it. And it makes me deeply ashamed that people can treat other people like that.

I watched the Danish movie Jagten and thought it was a nonsensational treatment of an affecting and sensitive issue. Recommended if you can deal with the subject matter.

The Great Beauty is obviously influenced by Fellini's films and I think it's a good thing. One of the better Italian movies I've seen recently.

I thought Blue Valentine (also directed be Derek Cianfrance) was a very good film.

I want to watch this one, but none of my local cinema is showing.

Rewatched A Beautiful Mind (2001) on TCM last night. One day I'll watch this all the way through. I still catch bits that I missed (no hard drive system to pause tv). Most movies with Jennifer Connelly are pretty bad, but this is her best performance in my opinion.
