    Default Hello from Kentucky

I wanted to post a quick hello. I am new to the forum and have really enjoyed the community here. Lot's of great knowledge shared! Thank you!

I've always been enamored by pens since I was young - and seemed to collect them as I went along with life. I picked up a fountain pen in 1998 because ballpoint pens were causing me to have a lot of pain due to the amount of writing I was having to do for work. So my transition to FP was merely for medical reasons. Now I love them for the beauty and elegance of the writing.

I've used FP since then, on and off. What has amazed me about the hobby is the amount of information, vendors, and variety that is available now than was 16 years ago!

I've got a few pens, but I wouldn't necessarily call myself a pen collector. My "nice" pens are a Pelikan M600, M200, and a Lamy 2000. I've got a few Lamy Al-Stars/Vistas and TWSBIs that I use from time to time too. My real love is inks. I love experiencing new inks and examining the colors and properties of the ink. My absolute favorites are Sailor Jentle and Nano inks, Rohrer & Klingner iron gall inks, and J. Herbin.

I also make pens on my lathe from time to time. I enjoy that process and get to add to my collection!

Looking forward to learning from you all,
    John

    Welcome!

We have a similar back story with pens, I can't get enough of them (or anything else writing related), and I also went to fp for ease of hand pain (arthritis). I've been exclusive with fp for several years now, and I do so enjoy them.

FPGeeks is a great forum, I'm sure you'll feel at home here.

    Hi John,

Welcome to the Fountain Pen Geeks forums! Smaller than the largest pen fora, larger than some, you'll find a comfortable community of pen-centric people here, with a growing body of posts, reviews, and group knowledge. Mostly, you'll find people who are enthusiastic about fountain pens, and fountain pen people.

Welcome bleunuitguy enjoy the forum and you'll soon discover how friendly and helpful everyone is. Did you go red, green or black with your M600. They are nice colours. I am just curious.

    Hi Everyone!
    What a friendly group!

For the M600, I went with blue. Blue tends to be my typical "go to" color for pens for some reason. Beautiful pen and nice writer.

I don't have a metal lathe, just a wood lathe, so I have to stick with the pen kits. I bought a couple of high end kits for Christmas gifts and turned them. I'll attach below. They are simple and there is not much to them, although I spend a lot of time finishing them. I tend to prefer acrylics/resins when I'm doing these little kits. One day, I'd love to get a metal lathe and turn entire pens from resin.

Until then, I am afraid that I have fallen into the deep well of fountain pens. I just discovered Nakaya pens. Wow... I found a clip-less piccolo that has my name on it (Heki-tamenuri (Brown-Green))

I guess I'm going to unload my vintage Parker 75 and a couple of other things to get that pen. This is a sickness, I tell you.

I think I'm going to try my hand at a couple of ink reviews on my favorite inks.

Here is a picture of those pens I turned:

Welcome John! Fellow Ink Junkie here--I've got three Nakayas on my Grail Pen list as well.

Love the bright colors on the pens you've made!
