According to Loren's message on Facebook, the lint has "disappeared."

Of course, I don't go to FPN so I have no idea.

I dislike the forum's sporadic enforcing of rules as much as the next FPN expat, but I don't see the problem with this one. The rules about not posting overtly religious or political threads are pretty clear. You did, so they locked it. This is a rule on a few other forums I frequent/have frequented as well.

The lint, the fuzz, and the fur have all been parsed along with some of my best work.

I could add, "...through God, our Lord."...would that pass the FPN rules?

You could add that here. It is a bit "overt" for elsewhere though. If you follow their rules you could post covert religious posts.

Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet.
That would seem to be an instance of "Don't cry over spilt milk". It seems like good advice to me. We can't change the past, but we can take actions in the present that will make the future better. If you are in a situation where you or others are treated badly, on a forum, in a relationship or anything else, why on earth would you stick around? You don't have to put up with that crap.

Does it really matter? The worst they could do is ban you. Is it punishment to be banned from such a place?

Courage is not the absence of fear; it is the conquest of it.
But leaving one forum and joining another is like putting down a copy of one magazine and picking a copy of another. It is no big deal.

Forums are like businesses. Some are quite well run and others much less so. It's not like proprietors of a poorly run business set out to make it that way. Sometimes that's just how things turn out, yet management won't give up control or make the necessary changes. C'est la vie. Why deal with those places when one does not have to?

It seems to me that watching fleas crawl over the dog would be a more productive use of time.

Take care, everyone. Just remember we were put on this Earth to have fun!

Being banned isn't so bad it gives you a wonderful perspective on how nasty people can actually be. Some of the things that were said about me were on the bleeding edge of libel. But I can only hope that at some time in the future Karma kicks them as hard as they kicked me.

I saw the Lent thread and thought, "Oh. This is going to be disappeared*." But I didn't have a negative reaction to it, even though I'm not a Christian. (I say atheist sometimes, Buddhist sometimes.) But I've also seen plenty of comments and threads disappeared when theists objected to the non-theists' posts; it goes round and round.

I'd prefer to see the posts. Often, they give me something to think about, sometimes in surprising ways. As a non-Christian, I could look at giving up something for Lent as giving up something as a practice of non-attachment, for instance.

I remember some rollicking debates in Chatter a few years ago. Yeah, some folks got their noses bent out of shape, but if you could filter out the noise, you could hear something worth paying attention to.

And some of the things people said, even if coarse, were plain hilarious. (I have a thick skin, me; a broad sense of humor.)

I've had posts and threads disappear - and was never warned nor reprimanded. I questioned only one of those instances. I could imagine how report-button-happy some members can be.

Me, I have never reported a post that wasn't a spam (and then, only a couple of times as it was reasonable to assume that the spam posts had been reported already).

I would have read the Lent thread with some interest - or, if it became too fervent for my comfort, I'd have stopped reading it.

I'm laughing, cos an iconoclast from Massachusetts at the Killarney (Ireland) youth hostel who'd been debating a theology student from Philadelphia said that I was unconsciously Christian. Maybe there isn't a need to label it.

I find it interesting how many take avoiding religion to a 'devotional' level. It's almost as if they are afraid of being wrong. I'm not strictly religious myself, but I can see the good, it has brought the world, I can also see where society's trend away from it is causing much larger problems.

Denying the existence of something, weather you agree with it or not, has never made it go away.

I can find that excessive religion can be off-putting, so to speak, but it doesn't bother me. I'm one of those who realizes the internet, just like the telly and the radio, have off buttons.

The beauty of discussing religion freely is that those critical of certain arguments in favor of specific religions or religious practices can contribute to the conversation. I am not concerned about proselytizing on the boards, cos I have my own mind and can decide for myself. It is not my responsibility to protect others who might be vulnerable to persuasion, if that's a fear for some in wanting to avoiding discussing religion. As long as there is discussion, though, many opinions can be represented, and that is better than having no discussion.

I mean, if Manny wants to mention God in all of his posts (sorry to single you out for illustrative purposes, Manny), and if I am moved to say something that supports a contrary position, I'd be satisfied having that option. Nothing one says on the Internet is safe from criticism, and that's the chance we all take. I don't expect everyone to agree with my opinions, and I hardly expect most or many to agree. If I were to go all-out atheist on the boards, then I wouldn't be surprised if some members took exception to it. If they couldn't be polite about it, then that says more about them than about me. I wouldn't try to shut them up by clicking on the report button. *Quasi-evil laugh
