I had a better idea...vellum. The same translucent vellum I used to write the wedding invitations on.

I honestly did not know where to put this link to an article, but since this thread is drifting anyway...

Thanks for the link, Manny. Hope Tennessee passes that law. It would be terrible to think that someone somewhere else in the States might have to send their kids to Tennessee to learn to write, though.

The sad thing is that they don't make the most important point. Fine motor skills are really important especially at a young age.
"What are moon-letters?" asked the hobbit full of excitement. He loved maps, as I have told you before; and he also loved runes and letters, and cunning handwriting, though when he wrote himself it was a bit thin and spidery.

Ok, so here's another article that really has nothing to do with penmanship, but opines why kids these days are so attached to their electronic gadgets.

Okay, so here I go again. But first, the WARNING...
This link is for an opinion piece on foxnews.com, and it touched on points that rang true with me, so far as to how my decision to take "a sabbatical" from the FPN was necessary.
Please don't read the article, if you're looking for an argument, because you won't get one...at least not from me.

Gosh - I'm not religious- I wouldn't care if she wore her cross. I like diversity in the people around me. Well her article explains why tv can be boring ands repetitive. I enjoy hearing others views even if I don't agree. Sometimes I think I know it all but then I hear others views and sudden my perspective changes. I hope we don't become overly "politically correct" in our interactions.

Congrats manny on your anniversary. Wishing you many years ahead.

Disclaimer: I find Fox News abhorrent and offensive on so many levels, the fact that it calls itself "news" is just the beginning.

That said, I also don't care if someone wants to wear their cross, or a Magen David, or any other religious symbol. I almost never remove my pentacle, and if I do, you can be damn sure I'm wearing something Pagan somewhere. I don't think that these things should be banned because someone disagrees--it's something extremely personal, and if any discussion is inspired by it, one would hope that it is intelligent and respectful.

How is Fox any better or worse than CBS? Fox was an expected and unfortunate backlash against the equally unfortunate liberal media bias on other outlets. Far-left bias distorts and repurposes the truth just as much as its far-right counterpart, does it not?

That said, I also don't care if someone wants to wear their cross, or a Magen David, or any other religious symbol. I almost never remove my pentacle, and if I do, you can be damn sure I'm wearing something Pagan somewhere. An open minded, humane and civilized approach to be sure. Hopefully it will become more widespread.

On TV news, things are very definitely banned because someone disagrees. Hairstyles, words and religious symbols are among the many things carefully regulated. This is done to maximize viewership, which results in higher ratings and increased ad revenue. One local TV anchor where I live wore her hair in cornrows one day and was eventually dismissed as a result. The wording of news broadcasts is carefully chosen so that even a child can understand every word. If people hear a word in a newscast they do not understand, it makes them feel stupid and they will change the channel. That is not good for ratings.

Restrictions on personal religious symbols say more our intolerance as a society than about a network's unfairness. People want to be told what they want to hear, and are often unwilling to even consider other viewpoints. IMHO, that is abhorrent because it leads to ignorance and oppression. Don't believe me? Just try mentioning gel pens favorably on one of the other fountain pen forums. One would likely get verbally tarred and feathered for daring to be so open minded.
