    Default Iron Gall Manufacturing Constituents

Nothing I have ever read has answered this question, but I am sure many people here will be able to say:
Do modern commercial, as distinct from amateur or boutique, manufacturers still use actual plant galls or do they use industrial chemicals?
    Kindest regards
    Timothy

Since nobody has answered yet, I will go out on a limb and day that yes I expect commercial IG ink components are chemically derived. (Those who know more than I will correct me!)
I have made some inks and assume the level tannins in the galls vary based on species, location, age of tree etc.
Having a repeatable recipe would be important.
