That is Brian Grey really stubborn about nib tuning. In my opinion an Edison STEEL can match any stock unturned gold nib. It's a artisan made instrument :-)

It's been a while since I updated, so here is the latest family picture.

I have completed my initial goal of collecting all of the production line models. My Herald and Encore are in custom materials, so at some point I will look for those on the secondhand market in production materials.
What is next? I haven't decided for sure. Brian showed me a drop dead gorgeous Stillwell. That will probably be next if I buy new. I still need a pen in Persimmon Swirl, too, and I need to just save up for an urushi Edison at some point.
Meanwhile I'll be on the lookout in the Classifieds for a Glenmont, 76, Menlo, and Del Coronado.
I bought my first Edison in June, 2011, so this is just about four years to this point.

Wow--I really like the look of that Menlo! Might have to look into that one for myself one day!

My Edison family has a new sibling. Shortly after my last update, I meandered across the path of a custom Edison I didn't ever think would be up for rehoming.
When Jde wrote about her new custom Edison on her Peaceable Writer blog a while ago, I loved the pen. https://peaceablewriter.wordpress.co.../08/01/tale25/ So when I saw that it was available, I jumped at the chance.
I have written with this one almost exclusively for a week and a half, and I enjoy it even more now. This is a writer's pen -- I believe I could write all day and not experience hand fatigue.
Here it is with its Huron cousin.
As you can see, the grip sections are the same. It would look ridiculous, but I can even interchange the caps if I want.
This pen came to me with an Edison fine nib (which works great, as expected) but I'm experimenting with nibs and ink today. Thus, the NP XXF nib in the photo.

Congrats on your new family member I almost bought the pen. It's got a great shape.
Can you make a writing sample with a F or EF? I looking to get an extra nib and can't decide. I only have a Italic, M and the gold nib I bought from you. Can you give me any info? Thanks
Verrrry nice!
I noticed her mention of the Danitrio Cum Laude. I just received one and it is, indeed, a wonderful little pen too.

I believe this will be the most helpful. These are all using the same ink and paper under a controlled setting. In my experience, there isn't much difference between a steel fine and extra fine. Both will be a little broader but drier than the modified gold nib you got from me.
The 18k nibs are wetter than the steel ones, and, in my experience, the fine is a touch broader than the EF. There seems to be an even bigger jump between the fine and medium 18k.
