Default Kingswood fountain pen - information and restoration options?

    Hi,

My Mum has sent me this photo of pen she is going to send to me and she says it is a 'Kingswood' with a 14ct gold nib. I was wondering if anyone is aware of any reference material on this make as I have never heard of it, I have googled a bit and found a few ebay items and thats about it.

I suspect it was my grandfathers so probably fairly old and has probably sat somewhere for 50 years.

Can anyone advise what it would take to get it writing and in regular use?

    Thanks!

Probably just a new sac, so long as the nib is in good shape. It is obviously a level filler. The sac will have dried out, replace that and bingo good to go. Very simple repair, but if you have never worked on a fountain pen before and it has sentimental value you may want to send it to someone to fix rather than risk damaging it. Before you do anything read! (Some materials are OK with soaking to get old ink off, some will be destroyed by soaking in water for example, so don't assume before you research.)

Thanks, I have bought a few cheap old pens and hope to practice by trying to repair them but this one is probaby not one I want to risk so I may well find someone int he UK who can bring it back to life for me.

    Regards

I don't know the make but the colors are very nice and it looks like it has some girth.

If you do a search on Kingswood in my blog you'll find several articles which cover some of the history and the various models. They're nice writers -they have Eversharp nibs. The one you have shown a photo of is one of the later models, made by Unique for Eversharp. It's a very straightforward repair. As tandaina says, it probably just needs a new sac.

Thanks very much, I will check out your blog. I am quite excited about it to be honest as I don't have any vintage pens, hehe
