Default Paul Rossi Parker 51's. Like, Yeep!

    Paul Rossi customized Parker 51's.

Three in matte and semi-gloss Crocodile pattern

One in gloss Ice-Flow, that one with customized cap as well.

These are entry level Rossi pens. They are quite nice. I'm glad finally to have Paul sharing some of his work with me.

A shot of Paul at the LA Pen Show with some of his major work, $3500 pens.

    regards

David, for a person who I normally hold in the highest esteem, you can occasionally show quite poor taste.

Sorry...I don't like the look of those at all! I wouldn't buy one..just not my taste. IMHO they look cheap...I have seen nicer looking Chinese pens ( various brands ).

No offense to the OP or the maker.

No worries. All have right to opinion. Suspect if seen directly might feel otherwise, as they were quite popular when shown to long time collectors are LA. But, probably not for everyone.

Kinda difficult to enjoy those when the desire(in my case) for 51's waned a long time ago....still,the wisdom
in creating them is interesting and to be commended....

I don't know what it is about them. It just looks like 2 different pens swapped sections. The Ice Flow one might look better if the pattern extended to the full pen??

Maybe they look better in person but I will stick with my " regular " 51's for now.

    Again, no offense intended.

It would be interesting to understand how they are made. Has everything except the barrel been taken from a donor P51 or is it an original pen with a binde?

    Hi Mr. Vinci,

Good questions, but the beauty is in the simplicity of process, the sophistication of execution. No donors. No bindes. Just a simple etching/carving freehand by Paul Rossi, done on the original barrels. Some pens also have custom buff applied to caps.

Here are a couple more shots of a different pen in the same family.

This close-up I fear is a tad blurry. Sorry on that.

And couple shots of the whole pen, under two different lighting conditions

David, thanks for your revealing reply - the close up shot of the barrel is very informative. The methodology is very different to, say, a Kullock where it is the cap (modified usually) innards and nib that is original. I should point out that I possess a Kullock and am very pleased with it, the quality is very high, and the comparison is not to denigrate, but rather to simply note the difference.

I have to say I prefer the less intricate barrel design in the first photo. I wonder whether there is any danger to the strength of the barrel with an intricate carving - although I anticipate not many of these pens would be in daily use?

Whatever, I cannot deny that I would like to own a Rossi P51. Are you pleased with how they write?

    Hi again,

While few things are absolute, in practice there is no threat to the structure of the pen. "51" has solid build with strong lucite. There is room to play with barrel thickness. Too, the barrel experiences little stress in routine use. The clutch grabs the cap, the hand holds the pen by gripping section. I would not have a more chemically/physically fragile color such as Nassau or Yellowstone done this way, but the etched Aerometric era pen should be just fine.

Ariel does very nice work. I've enjoyed seeing him and his evolving work the last 15 years at pen shows we share. Ran into him in Argentina once, but that's another story.

    regards
