Desert Island Pens & Ink (what wiould you choose to have on a deserted island?)

I've tried something like this before in an effort to focus and pare down my collection, but could not even go below 20 pens. But it might look something like this:

- my green Pelikan M800. Indestructible. Always writes.
- anything Visconti will fit with its 1.3 Palladium stub.
- my Omas MoMA, so light and smooth it almost floats, on water as well as on paper.

- Visconti blue
- Visconti sepia
- Akkerman Rood Haags Pluche, all 150 ml of it.

- Rodia Webbie
- a box of standard copy paper

Three inks:

Comp notebooks from India - love 'em!
Clairefontaine mini-books
Rhodia grid pads (the perf kind)


Of course, my standard reply when asked what I'd take to a desert island: a fully equipped and staffed four-star hotel. ;p

PS: I mis-read the OP! And why only two types of paper when we get three inks and three pens!??

Save up for one, it's definitely a good investment. My 2000 has been jungle trekking, mountain and rock climbing with me, and it doesn't complain one bit. In fact, the only stuff I do that I can't bring it along are swimming and diving. Which I'll be doing for the next 4 weeks... Poor Lamy 2000

I have a pen that was my great uncle's...a vintage faber castell higgins with a estie nib. The middle school I went to was very focused in the outdoors, and in 8th grade, we went to Moab utah for 10 days! I took the higgins (inked with higgin's NON india brown ink) on the plane, on a raft on the colorado, hiking, down to swimming holes....etc. I still have the beat up old Moleskine that I wrote a journal in. That pen only leaked once--after the rafting trip! I was very surprised! I really like vintage pens more than the looks of the 2000, and even though it would probably be a great pen for sophomre year in High school, I think my rotation for next year will have an vintage aurora 88 instead...along with a white toroise m400, and parker double jewel vac, and a sheaffer vac fill crest in green!

Platinum Carbon Ink to resist the elements.

Paper:
Carrefour 90 gsm general purpose paper. Not too absorbent and not too slick.
Aurora Bur-O-Class linen covered notebook. Able to handle harsh conditions.

SITB is an acronym for Stuff In The Bottle. The "stuff" in question consists of micro-organisms and reputedly can clog pens. Preservatives are added to ink to prevent these micro-organisms from growing. Ink manufacturers used phenol as a preservative in the past but nowadays tend to use preservatives that comply with food laws (ref: Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry - Drawing and Writing Materials). Based on my rather unscientific observations of old and new ink, I would say that phenol is a far better preservative than these safe alternatives. This is why I would try to add a small quantity to my inks before being stranded on a deserted island.

1) Rotring 600 - for the same reason as yours, and also because it feels like it can take a beating
2) Lamy Safari - reliable pen that seems to adapt well to tropical weather
3) Waterman Carene - one of my favorite writers - I had to bring one along and the Carene feels well-built. The other two are such pragmatic choices.

1) Mont Blanc Midnight Blue - I may want to send out a message in a bottle.
2) Iroshizuku Yama-guri - This is my favorite ink right now.
