Default Sheaffer Lifetime Nib Numbers: Explained At Last

I have written a paper that discusses Sheaffer's practice of imprinting their Lifetime nibs with an apparent serial number. I invite readers to have a look:

Fascinating, Daniel. I was going to say the article was worth it just for the postcard, but it is worth it for a whole lot more.

Thanks, Jon. It was a lot of fun to research and write. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you both. It was really interesting to research! I find the historical investigations really fascinating, and I am surprised to find that I am equally interested in these mysteries regardless of the brand involved; I've made some Waterman discoveries with George Rimakis, and Depression-era Parker findings are proving to be equally intriguing.

    Great article!

Even if the numbers were merely "buffed out," the depth of those numbers would have required removal of so much gold that the nib would, in fact, be substantially damaged.

aaarrrrgggghhhh. I'm just now(2016) doing a bit of research on this subject and the articles are all either deleted or have moved. Does anyone have a line on the article in question so that I might have a gander???
    Regards,

The article appeared in the Spring 2016 "Pennant", the publication from the Pen Collectors of America [PCA]. It is possible that they may now be doing e-versions for their members (I haven't checked), so you might at least take a look at the site. Even easier, the article is posted at Daniel's site here.

In research, Google is your friend.
