Thoughts on the CP1

Hey all,

I have been interested in the CP1 for some time now, but there aren't many reviews of it online and not much info as well. I was hoping if anyone owns it, they could provide some thoughts.

I love its minimally minimal look and was thinking it could be a good pen to toss into my bag, go and not have to worry too much about it.

Also, I assume LAMY still makes it, but its literally sold out everywhere I have looked.

Have you tried UK penshops - usually economical & fast shipping and the price will be less VAT.

The the other tubular Lamys such as the Linea, ST & Logo are similar to the CP1 but slightly cheaper and with different clip styles. They all use the same nibs. And Z26 (black) converter not the Z24(Red) converter.

I have owned two. My first I gave to Mr. Mike Duddek. I could not be without it and bought the same model at isellpens.com. It is a regular rotation pen for me.

+1 everything Bogon said except, don't pay £185 = $300.. This should be $150-ish with little effort, ask Lai at Pengallery for stock and best price + FedEx.

Er yes as Tony Rex said don't pay the full retail. Mine was from Melpens last year for $161 but the prices has rise a bit since.

However they do have the cheaper matt black CP1 as well for $51

I have the cp1 and use it and like it.
Major point, it is about 9.5mm in diameter. This is fine for me, but too small for some people. Just for reference, a standard #2 wood pencil is smaller than 9.5mm.
It writes...like a Lamy. It can use any of the Safari nibs from XF to 1.9 italic. I have the XF on mine now, but I did use it with the F and 1.1 italic nibs. Writing performance will vary based on the quality of particular nib you have. If you have a bad nib, change or fix the nib and you will have a completely different experience.

Caution on the XF nib. Like any XF or F nib, the smootheness of the writing will depend on the smoothness of the paper. Because the tip is so small, you will feel the texture of the paper surface. So a textured paper will feel ROUGH. IMHO, an XF nib wants a SMOOTH paper, better yet a SMOOTH HARD paper.

Thank you for your help. After a lot of consideration, I have decided to not go for the pen.
