There is no alternate of wooden pencils. Wooden are my favourite ones.

"Blackwings" are my favorites! Got them for drawing originally but they're all great to write with although I've not considered writing regular letters in pencil.... Have a box of each: black, the ivory and the silver grey. REALLY smooth and have neat erasers that are replaceable. I bought them originally on Jetpens and still do.

P.S. Rhodia pencils are lovely, too....so I alternate with them with the Blackwings. I finally found a good pencil sharpener for the triangular shape: the CARL Angel 5 manual sharpener with a see-through shavings holder.

Thumbs up Re: What's your favourite pencil?

I like these pencils from castle art supplies. They are comfortable and the color is good. With them I draw my drawings. Pencils are good, but not without flaws ( you can see here https://wowpencils.com/best-colored-pencils/ )

These are the 2 most recent volumes. The 811s actually glow very nicely in the dark. It’s a gimmick but it’s still a lot of fun. The number volume is the most recent volume.

I am on to the pencils and I have bought recently few pens which include Faber Castle TK 9400 and Rorting 300/ 600/ Tiky.5 and a KOH-I-NOOR 2mm clutch pencil.
They are all good and I like 600 as it is very robust and lightweight. There are so many good ones and they are on my next list (a Pental and a STAEDTLER Graphite)
Pencils are another rabbit hole and I am on the surface of it.

    - Among wood pencils, which are, as mentioned above, the best -- real cedar in your hand. Favorites are still Eberhard-Faber Mongol Number 1 for general writing. For notes in books, I used to prefer the Eberhard Faber Blackwing. In the mid-'90's, I found a stationery store in midtown, Manhattan, that never junked anything. Off to the side, under a layer of grit, I found a dozen or more boxes of the E-F number 1. Bought them, of course. Still use them. Also found a box -- meaning a dozen -- E-F Blackwings. Still have a few.

    - Easily available pencils: almost anything by California Republic / Blackwing. Favorite is the Pearl.

    - Mechanical pencil: Alvin Click Matic and its replacement, the Draft Matic, .7mm, B lead. Perfect for software design drawings and scribbled notes.

    - A new-to-me mechanical-pencil: the Autopoint, especially the .9mm Jumbo. The company goes back to about 1920, and earlier, really, because founder and designer Charles Keeran originally started the Eversharp Company. Yes, that Eversharp. Their first product was a mechanical pencil. Keeran was an inventor, so he brought in some money guys, who soon took Eversharp from him. We know the rest -- I have a half-dozen Eversharp Skylines and another half-dozen 5th Avenue and Symphony pens. Keeran took his pencil design to a new company, Autopoint. He again lost control to money people, but Autopoint marches on...after several changes in ownership. The All American and Jumbo are easy to grip, and both have a big eraser that says, "We make mistakes. I'll help you correct them". Available in .9mm, just like Parker and Sheaffer mechanical pencils in the golden older days. From what I can see, Autopoint had a good business selling their pencils as advertising pencils as well.

My favorite (and at this time only) mechanical pencil is the Zebra M701.

How do I attach/embed a photo? When I click the photo icon, it wants a URL. My photos in this devise aren't a URL. My laptop is busted, bad CPU fan. and won't fire up. My obsolete circa 2013 Windows Surface RS tablet, and my allegedly "smart" phone (also obsolete), Imgur, and other photo hosting sites, do not play well together.
