Default Manu Propria - Satô Nuri Fountain Pen

This afternoon I finally finsihed another urushi ebonite fountain pen.
The lacquer technique is one I have tried myself as an experiment. I call is "satô nuri" sugar lacquer.
The reason is, that I have sprinkled white sugar into wet black urushi. After hardening I gave it three coats of black urushi. Then the surface was ground to release the sugar particles. After an hour in warm water the sugar had disappeard and I started applying layer after layer of red "shû" urushi to achieve a sertain thickness of lacquer. Then the whole surface was ground flat and polished. It took around a months to finish the lacquer work.
Ebonite & Urushi, 18 kt. gold nib, Cap: Length 85.00 mm, diameter 17.00 mm, Barrel: Lenght 115.00 mm, diameter 17.00 mm, Capped: Length 165.00 mm
