eras of 149 production

I am a Mont Blanc newbie...to try a 149, is there a production period which would be more favorable than others? I ask as a writer, good writing qualities are my top priority. So rarity, collector value, etc is not an issue for me. Would an early '90s pen (in good working condition) be a good acquisition? Or is the question really irrelevant, they are all good?

Pretty irrelevant. I've found little functional differences in any modern (1970s-today) 149s.

You're writing with the iridium tip, so that's what will matter most, along with the tine spacing, which will control how wet the pen will write. Also depends on your preference of smoothness. A worn-in nib from earlier times might have a more velvety feel than glassy smooth, and I prefer the former. Kinda like cake icing as opposed to button on glass.

Both ebonite feed pens and plastic feed ones can be set wetter or drier, so don't feel a need to go with the older ebonite feed 149's.
