I was https://www.viberate.com/tools-for-i.../artist-stats/ wondering if there's a forum on the internet dedicatedly exclusive to Mechanical Pencils lovers, i joined in here wanting to chat and see all kinds of MP, but it seems that i got caught a bit with Fountain Pens instead and ordered a Lamy All-Star,Joy,Noodler's Ink, and a Pilot Metropolitan.

But i do, as a student have a sweet spot for writing that i can erase. I'm a fan of Kuru Toga's, the cheapest is my favorite. So far this is my set up:

    - Standard (US) Black Uni Kuru Toga 0.5mm
    - Black Uni Kuru Toga Roulette 0.5mm
    - Teal Uni Kuru Toga Rubber Grip 0.5mm
    - Matte Black Jetstream MultiPen - Blue+Black+Red+Green+ 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil
    - Zebra M-701 0.7mm

    and on the way:

    - Pink Uni Kuru Toga High Grade 0.5mm
    - Silver Rotring 600 0.5mm

Leads i have some Pentel Ain Stein and Uni Nano Dia, i have not experienced any single lead break from any of these leads and these pencils since December. Use my standard Kuru Toga everyday. I think i have MP for a lifetime with these, and leads to spare too!!

Rotring 800+ or 800 was out of my budget. I did wanted the Rotring with the gold accents and retractable.. but $70 or $50 for a mechanical pencil - thought it was too much. Got the 600 from Amazon for less than $30 and they seem much alike.

What are your opinions, how does it look? I think i'm very much sold on the Kurus... they write so sharp ... i wonder if i'll like that Rotring better.
Absolutely! Collecting mechanical pencils is a fascinating hobby enjoyed by enthusiasts worldwide. From vintage treasures to modern marvels, mechanical pencil collectors appreciate the artistry, craftsmanship, and functionality of these writing instruments. Some collectors focus on specific brands, historical periods, unique designs, or limited editions, while others simply enjoy building a diverse and eclectic collection.

These prized possessions often showcase innovative engineering and materials, making them not only captivating collectibles but also functional tools for writing and sketching. Whether it's a rare vintage find or a contemporary gem, the joy of mechanical pencil collecting lies in the pursuit of the perfect piece to add to one's assortment. So, if you're drawn to the elegance and ingenuity of mechanical pencils, you're not alone; there's a vibrant community of collectors eagerly seeking to expand their collections and share their passion for these timeless writing instruments.

Some special pencils including one seems to look like a carpenter's pencil with a pencil holder.
and a pencil to hold three different leads in colour and a very interesting smart mechanism in a small pencil to function without trouble.
It is the third pencil on top just before the Black pencil ( which is again a sliding ring to advance the lead )

This has been an wonderfully educational thread. I knew that there were vast numbers of pencils that matched fountain pens, and others that I guess could be called standalone, but seeing so many of them all at once, and almost all of them so gorgeous, it almost makes me want to start spending compulsively on them, now that I've finally managed to at least slightly rein in my fountain pen (and dip pen, and nibs, and ink, and paper, and washi tape, and vintage postcards, and...) acquisitiveness. Sigh.

Anyway, most of my mechanical pencils are pretty fine-line modern plastic ones, usually Pilot or Pentel, and strictly utilitarian. For drawing I use wooden artists pencils, usually Staedtler. However, I do have one cool vintage-ish mechanical pencil that was a free gift from Teri at Peyton Street Pens when I bought a fountain pen from her. Photo below. It was NOS when I got it, but it has seen a LOT of use since.

I use it every day. More than once. And I love it. Once I misplaced it for the better part of a day, and I was a frantic until I found it. Funny how inanimate objects can do that to you.

I don't collect mechanical pencils, but I do have a number of them as part of bulk acquisitions of fountain pens.

These two are interesting, both sterling silver. The small one is ... well, very small, but fully functional, and the patterns on the body is very detailed and cool.

The long one, is actually a lot longer. If you pull on the "ring" right before the pencil nozzle, the pencil will extend up to a foot long. And the side that has ruler marks does indicate pretty accurately up to 12 inches.

I am drawn to mechanical pencils for a wide range of designs, from sleek and minimalist to ornate and decorative. Moreover, I think Mechanical pencils can have various unique features that appeal to collectors. This can include specialized mechanisms, interesting lead advancement systems, retractable tips, grip designs, or even built-in erasers or sharpeners

Since FPGeeks is mostly about fountain pens and a little about other pens, the mechanical pencil doesn't get much love here. This topic was started 10 years ago and has only 18 pages! I first posted in it back in 2016. Anyway, there's a site that opened up last year that's dedicated to mechanical pencils, called Knockology. Worth a visit.

MPs are my favorite mode to use, followed by fountain pens. I would guess I have at least 50 or so in all price ranges.
